Assignment 1 Part

Take out a sheet of paper and divide it into two. Title one column "What parents bring to their role from past experiences" and the other column title "What parents bring to their role from their family background" Then think and inquire about four items that fit under each column.

What Parents Bring To Their Role From Past ExperiencesWhat Parents Bring To Their Role From Their Family Background

ØThey may think about their childhood and remember all the things they had. They may want to give their child what they never had.ØThey may have babysitting experience; they know the responsibility of taking care of a child.ØThey may have learned about birth and how it affects one's life. They have learned about the happiness that can be earned in having a child and creating a family. This way, they decide to learn ahead of time about the responsibilities. They can be prepared.ØThe way parents have treated their children are the ways that those children will grow up to treat their children. If a child grows up all his/her life being mistreated, it is most likely that they'll mistreat their child. It is all about how a child experiences things in lifeØThey bring culture. Culture that brings the clothes the children wear, brings the food they eat, brings the life they live.ØParents bring religion; a child usually is raised being of a religion their parents are from.ØThey bring lifestyle to their children. The way their parents live may be similar to the way a child lives. For example, a poor family will have poor children.ØSomething that will always be brought from a family background is love. No matter where you're from, love is brought down from family to family. Even animals in this world express this.

Assignment 1 Part

Write a two-paragraph journal response on some positive things from your family background and personal experiences that you would like to bring to your role as a parent in the future. As well, explain if there are any experiences that you might like to gain prior to having children to help you in your role as a parent.

à Content = 5 marks. Clarity/spelling/grammar = marks

My family is from two parts of the world. My father is from Vietnam and my mother is from Ecuador. In my life I have experienced two types of everything. Culture, food, life etc… I would like to take many positive things from my family background and use them towards my future life as a parent. I would like to provide my child with an open environment so he/her can learn things on his/her own. I would like to give them a musical instrument or interest them in sport they may want to play. Two different people have raised me and they have taught me a lot.

I have had many personal experiences that I would like to bring to my role as a parent in the future. Having my parents give me a guitar has been one of the greatest things in my life. I am now a musician that plays with a band. We have a dream to make it famous and to make music out there for people to relate to. And in this experience, imagine if you could provide your child with a soccer ball or a musical instrument when they are child. They may or may not be interested, but if they are, they will gain great talent in the sport or instrument. This will lead the child to a great future. Same thing goes with providing a book, making it an enjoyable hobby for child to read or play an instrument. It's done a lot for me and I'd like to pass it on to my children.

I'd like to gain more experience in taking care of children. I need more babysitting experience and I would like to understand more about child development and how the learn individually. In knowing this, problems will never occur with such things as learning disabled children or anything in that field.

Script

It was a Friday night and Sabrina and Jonathan were waiting for the children to come home. It was almost midnight. Sabrina noted, "Jonathan, our children know when their curfew is." Their children were supposed to be home at 1000pm. Jonathan asked his wife, "They are two sixteen year-old girls, what could they possibly be doing out so late?" It was getting really late and the parents were getting tired. They were just about to go up to bed, when they heard keys scratching in the keyhole on the door. Sure enough it was their children. The door opened, "Do you know what time it is?!" the father yelled. "If you could possibly stay out this late, you might as well not come home" said the mother in an angry tone. "So get out, and don't come back," the father yelled, slamming the door behind them. The children didn't know what to do, so they went to their neighbour's house. Though they had done something wrong and disobeyed their parents, everyone makes mistakes. They were feeling a guilt they had never felt before. Their parents had done something wrong by kicking them out of the house and they weren't the only ones feeling bad. The neighbour's were happy to accept the girls that night and talk to them. They told the girl's that they must have had their parents extremely worried. "A call or something would have helped a lot. It's all about being responsible and keeping your parents informed of where you are," said one of the nieghbours. The girls stayed there for a while and then left. They decided to go home and try again. The girls were scared, but where else could they go? They didn't want to stay at their neighbours and all the wanted to was to go home. Their parents were unpredictable and they didn't know what choice to make. The memories of love between one's family can never leave their heart. They approached the front porch of their home and one of the girls put the key in to open the door. At that exact moment her father answered the door with sadness in his eyes and their mother sitting down by the door anxious to see if the girls were all right. Nothing but silence for about a minute, and nothing but love filled the room when the girls ran to their parents crying and holding them. And as the girls hugged their parents, they felt the greatest feeling. Having their parent's hug them back firmer than the girls did made all of them feel happier and secure. "I love you dad, I love you mom" were the words the girls said.

Assignment 1 Part 5

1.Create a chart that lists 5 responsibilities parents have for children in the age group of 0 5.

.Write a paragraph on how these responsibilities change as the child grows to 5 years of age.

.Write a paragraph on why parenting is a lifelong commitment in today's society.

1) 5 responsibilities parents have for children in the age group of 0 5

i)Feeding the childii)Keeping the child healthyiii)Washing the childiv)Clothing, toys, games (Childhood necessities)v)Spending time with the child

)Most of these responsibilities will remain the same but change in slight ways. Feeding your child from a bottle will change to eating from bowls, plates and drinking from cups. Keeping the child healthy will always remain the same because a child needs their vitamins and minerals. A parent must always provide all the necessities needed to keep a child's health maintained. Washing your little girl or boy will slightly change. They may want to become independent in doing this, but you must always be there to monitor them. Providing fun and games is a never-ending story because a child wants many things. From toys to candy, it will always be requested and sometimes parents should fulfill these needs. Spending time with your child is something you must always do. Being there when your child is upset or happy; to talk to or just to be a friend. Your children will grow to up to be more independent, but that must never push a parent away. Being there for your child whether they are a month old to a 5 year old will make the child feel loved. When they know what love is, they can give it back. Being there will bring trust and security.

)In today's society being a parent is a lifelong commitment because children grow up knowing how dear their parents are to them. They learn to have great respect for parents who have sheltered them and provided all the fundamental needs for them. Parents are there when a child gets into school, or when a child graduates from elementary school. They are there when you have won an award or when you get married. As long as someone's parents are alive, they will always be there for you; to give you advice for your children and to teach you something about their life experiences.
