The gentle breeze, the warm, glowing sun, the refreshing exercise these are all part of extracurricular activities. Students cherish this time of the day and are able to release stress through their enjoyment. Whether it is athletics or Drama Club, extracurricular activities allow students to embark on activities that they like. Of course not everyone agrees with the allowance of extracurricular activities, but they are overall beneficial. Although valuable time could be better-spent improving academics, school-sponsored extracurricular activities should be unlimited because they keep students involved in the school and build character.

Naturally, some people believe valuable time could be better-spent improving academics than participating in numerous extracurricular activities. However, enough time is already spent in school. For example, students at Eagles Landing High School attend school for approximately seven hours a day. Secondly, by limiting the extracurricular activities, you cannot guarantee that students will spend the extra time studying. That is, many children would go home and sit on the couch watching television. Finally, students pick up many real-life applications of math, science, geography, etc. in extracurricular activities. In fact, many activities, such as Math Team, are geared toward furthering education. Obviously, time spent in extracurricular activities should be cherished and cannot be better spent any other way.

Extracurricular activities help keep students involved in their school. Many students are able to meet other students with similar interests through extracurricular activities. Specifically, an outcast in a regular classroom may find numerous friends in an activity such as Chess Club. By meeting people with common interests, students can share their passion for something and feel as if they belong in their school. Extracurricular activities can also boost school spirit. For instance, when students participate in these activities they come to school eager and excited because of their activity. This helps students feel like a part of the school and gives them a purpose for attending. Lastly, extracurricular activities extend the school day, keeping students supervised longer. This allows students to spend more time with their teachers and classmates, improving relationships. It is quite clear that participation in extracurricular activities allows students to become included in their school.

Ultimately, extracurricular activities build character in students. More specifically, they teach students life lessons. Of course, a basketball player will learn responsibility if they are forced to run for being late to a practice. Not only that, but extracurricular activities also provide supervision to help keep students out of trouble. For example, a student may have parents that work late. Rather than staying at home or with friends after school, where someone could get into trouble, students can stay at school participating in activities where they are watched and kept busy. Finally, extracurricular activities encourage positive leadership roles. Granted an athlete respects the opinion of their coach, they are likely to pass on positive morals instilled by their coach. Many athletes are respected by their fellow students and are able to encourage high moral standards among them. On the whole, students can achieve exemplary virtues by participating in extracurricular activities.

School-sponsored extracurricular activities should not be limited because they allow students to participate in the school and encourage good morals. Students will become happier, more virtuous people as a result of extracurricular activities. If students can handle these activities, they should not be restricted from taking part in them. After all, students enjoy extracurricular activities, while improving their overall well-being. In conclusion, this is the appropriate time to provide youth with positive direction in their lives.

Preliminary Sketch Introduction

Many see Frida Kahlo as a person plagued by, but defiant of death.1 The only influence in her work, it seems, is pain. Hers is tragic painting, always related to her inner life, pursued by two or three primordial, refined, and bloody obsessions, with bitter delectations of pain, to free herself from it, and to exalt life. The authenticity of the feeling, of the anguish, is so patent that it created the language for her tortured monologue. Without her work, which was her daily resurrection, Frida Kahlo would have drowned in her own eyes. I paint my own reality, she said. The only thing I know is that I paint because I need to, and I paint always what passes through my head, without any other consideration.

What passed through Frida Kahlos head and into her art was some of the most original and dramatic imagery of the twentieth century. Painting herself bleeding, weeping, cracked open, she transmuted her pain into art with remarkable frankness tempered by humour and fantasy.4 Andr Breton once described Kahlos work as containing that drop of cruetly and humour uniquely capable of blending the rare affective powers that compound together to form the philtre which is Mexicos secret.5 Always specific and personal, deep-probing rather than comprehensive in scope, Kahlos autobiography in paint has a peculiar intensity and strength.6 One is struck by the intensity of her appetite for life her will not simply to endure but to enjoy. One is also struck by her plaintive loneliness and the omnipresence of pain, and the way she uses these.7

The above suggests some rather interesting points which will be discussed in greater detail in this analysis. First, there is an allusion to Kahlos life of torment and to her autobiography in paint, the latter of which sustained her from day to day. It would be senseless to comment on Kahlos art without knowing something of her life. For this reason, therefore, this analysis will also provide a brief discussion of the unfortunate circumstances which led her to choose the occupation that would eventually reshape her life. Poliomelitis, various illnesses, and the turning point a traffic accident in September of 15 in which she was literally impaled by a metal handrail.

Consequently, starting from 15, her life was a difficult struggle against a slow decline and a life tormented by a fear of death. Nevertheless, her work, which will also be discussed in detail, expresses her attempts to liberate herself from pain and anguish, not only to endure life, but also to exalt it, enjoy it, and to address themes of particular interest to women in general and to Kahlo in particular.

Kahlos themes frustrated dreams of motherhood, jealousy, lust, pain, sexuality are not always represented in her paintings through conventional means. Rather, Kahlo discloses herself to reveal her entrails as symbols of her feelings. She deliberately manipulates gender roles and opposes the fixed limits of identity and self. Thus, Kahlo succeeded in piquing the interest of contemporary artists and particularly the interest of those who, influenced by conceptual art, use images as signs. Finally, this analysis will look at Kahlos influence on the artists of today. To this end, we will closely examine the Madonna/Kahlo connection it is interesting to study the ways in which each of these artists takes control of her body to dramatize those ideological questions tied to gender representation, how each questions the social parameters of acceptable sexual behaviour, how each manipulates cultural icons, and how each defines religious iconography to redefine her own identity. Through this example, one comes to understand the manner in which Kahlo was able to redefine where the fine line is drawn between arts and culture on the one hand, and the media on the other. She did this in such a way as to become a celebrity of contemporary culture.

Music In Middle Ages

The middle ages, (450- 1450), after the Roman empire fell this was a time of great change through chaos. The later part of the middle ages brought a period of growth with religious structures and universities. Most of society in the beginning of this era was influenced by the Roman Catholic church. During the middle ages the Roman Catholic church's official music was the Gregorian chant, named after Pope Gregory I. This music was sung without instruments, set to sacred Latin texts. It was without meter, and a little sense of beat. The sound of this chant resulted in the unfamiliar scale also called, church mode. Music outside the church also greatly attributed to this era. These songs were usually preformed on court minstrels. Most of these compositions were about love, the crusades, dance songs, and spinning songs. Most of these songs had a regular meter and a clearly defined beat, unlike the Gregorian chant. In the middle ages music was mostly monophonic, however, between 700- 00 the first steps were taken to transform music. Monks in monastery choirs began to add a second melodic line to the Gregorian chant. This music was called organum. Between 00- 100, organum became polyphonic, and the melody added to the chant became more independent. From about 1170- 100, Notre Dame composers developed rhythmic innovations. They used measured rhythm with definite time and clearly defined meters. A chant used as a basis for polyphony is known as a cantus firmus (fixed melody). Near the end of this era, the church weakened after many suffrages, such as The Hundred Year War and the Bubonic plague. In this time secular music held more importance than sacred music. A new system of musical notations had emerged, and a composer could specify any rhythmic pattern. Now beats could be divided and sometimes use syncopation. The middle ages are not all that different from any other era. As in each era music has often been representative of society and the times.

For a few short years, from the beginning of the 1850s to the early 60s, thousands of people flocked to Australia. The ships that brought them often swung empty at their moorings as both crews and passengers swarmed inland toward makeshift camps. The lure was gold.

With so many immigrants from different countries assembled on the goldfields, it wasnt long until threats to social stability were magnified in the form of racism.

One of the main driving forces behind this racism was competition on the goldfields. For example, initial racism centred on gold-seekers from the United States. With their experience gained on the Californian goldfields, the Americans were active and successful in Australia, not only in finding gold but in business too. This created some unease, especially from the British who had claimed Australia as theirs. Foreigners like the Americans were constantly arriving on their land to search for gold at potential places they had not discovered themselves. Subsequently, the British were not happy with these gold-seekers and racism based largely on fear of competition erupted.

Originally, most of the racism on the goldfields involved the Britishs disquiet over the presence of diggers from the United States and other foreigners as they arrived, which had their own concerns about competition. However, this changed when the Chinese arrived.

The Chinese, like so many others, came to Australia to dig for gold because there were problems in their own land. Although they only numbered about 1-% of the Australian population, the racism that resulted towards them was quite intense.

The Chinese looked different, they dressed differently and they ate different food from the Europeans. In addition, the Chinese digger living on the goldfields was usually not a free man like the European. Most of the Chinese diggers were hired workers, paying off a debt at home by digging gold for someone else. They didnt get drunk or fight and, of course, they did not speak English very well.

Many people (practically all non-Chinese diggers, most of whom were European) did not like the Chinese and adopted a racist attitude towards them basically because they were different.

It not only annoyed some diggers that the Chinese had their own ways, but when a mine/site had been finished with, they would go and look through what was left in the 'mullock' heap where they'd often find significant amounts of gold that the other miners had missed. Needless to say, this irritated many diggers, which also lead to a fair bit of racism towards the Chinese.

This racism was so well-established that even the state governments of Australia became involved. They tried to restrict the number of Chinese coming into Victoria and New South Wales (and other areas) partly because they did not want such a race making up a very large proportion of the Australian population. They did this by limiting numbers on ships and introducing a tax on each Chinaman entering restricted parts of the country.

Overall, however, the results of the racism against Chinese diggers were much more severe than a ten-pound tax. On many occasions, racism spilled over into hatred and hysteria with crimes committed against the Chinese. Riots were particularly frequent and in most cases, European diggers attacked Chinese camps, burned their tents, smashed equipment, beat and kicked them. Such riots occurred at Buckland River (Victoria) in 1847, The Crocodile Creek Goldfields (Queensland) in 1867 and at Lambing Flat (NSW) in 1861.In addition to this, the Chinese were often chased by the other diggers who cut off their pigtails. These ongoing results of racism lead to the separation of the Chinese from the rest of the goldmining societies. Chinese villages were typically set apart from the townships and a man known as a Chinese Protectorate was usually needed to make sure that his people were looked after and that others kept away from them and didn't hassle them.

Being such a widespread and significant topic, there were several different perspectives/views about anti-Chinese racism on the goldfields.

As part of being racist, many diggers spread stories and often believed strongly that the Chinese were "indescribably repulsive, dirty and disorganised..." On the other hand, some diggers looked beyond the stories and saw the Chinese for what they actually were. As one such digger put it, "The Chinese village was always very organised, they were wonderful gardeners, very clean people." In this case, racism developed from jealousy.

Like the European diggers, the Chinese also had their own views about each other. One Chinaman wrote, "Many of the European diggers are dirty, careless, lazy, rowdy and unfriendly." Although many Chinese people thought that, they kept their opinions to themselves.

Finally, there were also contrasting ideas when it came to the restriction of Chinese immigration. While most people thought that this was a good thing, mainly because of the attitude they had towards the Chinese, other people, although they may not have liked the Chinese, took a more positive stance. They claimed that Chinese immigration might as well continue if they were going to learn to live in the already multicultural society of Australia "Individual experience of living alongside people from different cultures will be best guide to showing the lie of the filth and disease so often ascribed to non-white people."

In my opinion, this statement stands true today, as the Chinese people have pride and great respect for being in Australia by sharing with us their cultures and traditions.

A couple of years ago on April twentieth, two teenagers no more than sixteen years of age, decided to wreak havoc on their school.By the end of their fifteen minutes of terror, they had killed thirteen people twelve students and one teacher, before taking their own lives. And so we have the birth of the Columbine tragedy.Could better weapons control have prevented the Columbine tragedy?

I say weapons control, because a lot more weapons than just guns are used in crimes. In fact, more often than not, a knife is used to threaten people, rather than a gun.Whether a knife or a gun, all are weapons of mass destruction; I say mass destruction because any weapon used to kill someone causes a mass destruction.A person doesn't even need a sharp object to take another one's life. What are we to do, ban all potentially dangerous objects? That isn't even construed as a possible resolution, simply because it is improbable. So we move on to the weapons that cause the bigger bang, guns.

If we ban use of all guns to civilians then we have no guns to shoot each other with. Not quite that simple because 1) it conflicts with a constitutional right every American is born with and ) only two people will have guns law enforcement officials and the bad guys.Drugs are 100 percent illegal, but many people still find a way to smoke a joint after they get home from work.

So over the past years, we've had laws passed to restrict who can own weapons and requiring specials permits for special uses (i.e. Concealed handgun).Despite these efforts, people are still getting murdered everyday for motives mostly related to money. The people using these guns aren't, by any means, law-abiding citizens, so what makes you think they are going to have permits for their guns? They're not, plus every gun has a unique mark it leaves on every slug, making it very easy to trace back what gun the slug came from, why would they want their name linked to that gun? They may commit crimes, but they are not stupid.Once again, the only people limited to use are the people who don't commit the crimes.

If we can't ban guns or limit their use, than what can we do? The answer nothing. There is one possible solution that probably wouldn't work, but is nevertheless an idea Why doesn't everyone own a gun? This way anyone attempting to rob another person will have to think twice, because a gun could very well be pulled out on him or her.Now we have guns and the means to shoot anyone we want, but we won't because somebody could just as easily shoot you.The Wild West has been dead for quite sometime now, and there isn't much of a need for a revival. The whole idea behind everyone having a gun seems a bit barbaric anyway.

Let's pretend at the time before the Columbine tragedy there was a law passed that pushed us one step closer to a utopian society by restricting use of guns and who has them. These laws somehow made it impossible for the two young men responsible for the Columbine murders to get their hands on any guns or ammunition. So it's the morning of that April twentieth and suddenly the students here a loud bang, not one that sounded like a pop, but more like a boom. Then you hear people screaming for somebody to call -1-1 immediately, some kids just set off a bomb in the middle of the cafeteria where at least one hundred kids were socializing and enjoying themselves. The two responsible researched online, and found step-by-step directions on how to build an easy bomb that will cause a lot of damage.Over thirty people will pay the ultimate price to a killer their life.

My answer is clear, no; my reasoning is understandable, people who kill will find a way to do what they want anyway. This is unfortunately the truth, I'll never understand, but I don't want to, besides, I can't.

Please note that this sample paper on Can gun control prevent tragedy? is for your review only. THERAPEUTIC CLONING --- WHY IT SHOULD BE ALLOWED

In my opinion therapeutic cloning, once accomplished successfully, should be continued because I think it would provide great benefits to many people. It will save many lives and increase the quality of many others.A lot of individuals may disagree with therapeutic cloning because it involves the usage and the killing of human embryos in its process. Many view an embryo as a form of life and they believe that it is wrong to kill one human being in order to save another.

Therapeutic cloning has a multi-step process which involves the taking of a DNA sample from a sick patient and inserting it into an embryo taking the place of its original DNA.After about a day the eggs begin dividing and when the number of stem cells reaches about 00 they are removed from the embryo, killing it in the process. At this time the stem cells can be encouraged to grow into whatever tissue or organ is needed to treat the patient. The end result would only be a replacement organ, a piece of nerve tissue or a quantity of skin, and it would then be transplanted back into the patient.

When therapeutic cloning will be successful, then perfectly matched replacement organs will become available to sick and dying people whenever they need it.This would save a lot of time money and most important of all, their lives. It will also make others around them very happy and worry free.Three possible examples of therapeutic cloning might include the use of insulin secreting cells for diabetes, nerve cells in stroke or Parkinsons disease; or liver cells to repair a damaged organ. There would probably be other benefits resulting from this research.Further advances in understanding of how organs regenerate would increase the range of possible treatments that could be considered.Therapeutic cloning has the potential to treat if not cure certain diseases and disorders that cannot be effectively handled today.

When compared to regular organ transplant donated by a second person therapeutic cloning has many other benefits. When a person gets a transplant donated by another person there are chances the first individual will not react well to the organ and might therefore reject it.If the needed organ is cloned using therapeutic cloning then such problem will not occur because the organs DNA would have a perfect match to the patients DNA.Other advantages of cloning are that if a patient needs and organ he or she would not have to wait until a donor dies to obtain a transplant because a new organ would be grown for them when they needed it.Also once the organ is received that patient would not have to have a replacement organ that is old and may have reduced functionality, because once again they will have a brand new one made only for them.

As I mentioned before many individuals object to this type of cloning even though its proven to have the potential of saving and improving lives. The fact that therapeutic cloning uses human embryos has many people thinking its wrong, and that instead of it saving lives it will also take lives. These people think that an embryo is the beginning of human life and killing it would be the same thing as killing a human being. In my opinion an embryo is many cells containing DNA.It is not much different from any other cells in the human body.I dont consider an embryo to be a human being because it has no brains, no heart, no nerves or sensory organs, and no self-awareness.It probably will develop into a person later on, but only if allowed to mature. At the very beginning of its life its nothing but a bunch of cells.Thats why I dont think there is anything wrong with therapeutic cloning, because it causes no harm.

In conclusion I think therapeutic cloning should be allowed because it will save many lives and better countless other. In the future it might cure diseases and disorders and be very helpful in the world of science and medicine.

Today, we live in a world where information technology is moving at the speed of light. Communications have been dramatically improved with the invention of computers. Through Internet, communication has been made so simple. For example, with the help of computers, you can send e-mail messages to friends and loved ones within seconds. Online banking, in which you can transfer funds and monitor accounts and transactions, has become very useful too. Students no longer need to write their papers by hand or to use typewriters; instead, powerful word processing software can be used. Other functions of the computer may include online shopping, where you can order goods and get them delivered to your home.

These examples are made possible by software, which are basically computer programs. There are various steps that need to be taken in order to create a computer program. The most important step in programming is to analyze the problem and the reason of the creation of the program. Next would be to outline the problem requirements and then design an algorithm, which is a step-by-step problem-solving process in which a solution is arrived at in a finite amount of time. After this is done, the programmer needs to implement the algorithm in a programming language, such as C++, Q Basic, C, and verify that the algorithm works. The last step a programmer needs to take is to maintain the stability of the program by using and modifying it when necessary.

Analyzing the Problem

The reason this step is very important is because the programmer has to fully understand the problem before trying to solve it. Good understanding of the problem will help in the creation of a more effective program. There are three steps involving problem analyzation

•Thoroughly understand the problem

•Understand the problem requirements. Requirements include whether the program requires interaction from user, whether it manipulates data, and what the output looks like. If the program manipulates data, the programmer should know how the data is represented and in what manner.

•If the problem is very complex, divide the problems into sub-problems and repeat the first two steps of analyzation on each sub-problem.

Designing Algorithm

To design an algorithm is just like making a skeleton outline for an essay. This involves a lot of thinking by the programmer. Once the algorithm is fully designed, the programmer has to check for correctness by using sample data. Another way of checking would be to do some mathematical analysis depending on the situation and the program.

Implementing Algorithm into Higher Level Language

Once the algorithm is designed and completely correct, the next step is to convert it into high-level language. Depending on what programming language, the programmer has to make sure to follow the language's syntax. To verify this, the converted algorithm has to be run through a compiler. When the compiler generates error messages, it means that the programmer has made a syntax error while writing the source code. The programmer then has to go back into the code and identify and change the errors. When all the syntax errors have been removed, the compiler generates the equivalent machine code, the linker links the machine code with the system's resources, and the loader places the program into the main memory so that it can be executed.

Maintaining the Program

The compiler makes sure that the program follows the language's syntax, but it does not guarantee that the program will run correctly. In order to make sure the program runs correctly, the programmer has to do one last step execute the program. During execution, the program might terminate abnormally as a result of logical errors such as division by zero. The program might also generate erroneous results even if it terminates normally. Under these circumstances, the source code, the algorithm, or even the problem analysis has to be re-examined by the programmer to maintain the correctness of the program.

In conclusion, creating a program involves a lot of efforts. Taking careful approach to programming is very advantageous to you. As you can see, programmers spend a considerable amount of time analyzing the problem and designing the algorithm. It is much easier to discover errors if a program is well structured and well designed. Also, do not forget about the main purpose of creating a program and what problem it is designed to solve. If these steps are done carefully and properly, a much better and efficient program will and can be created.

Change in our lives is inevitable'. Change is something that is unavoidable in our lives no matter who we are or where we live. The idea of change is shown clearly through Goldsworthy's novel Maestro, Parr's representation of Duterrau's The Conciliation, and Orwell's novel Nineteen Eighty Four. Goldsworthy displays change through the characters, setting and relationships. Parr shows change through the figures, setting and style or artwork. Orwell presents change through the characters, language and the Government System.

Goldsworthy shows how change is inevitable through two main characters; Paul Crabbe and Eduard Keller. The text proves that change is unaviodable as it is a memoir of Paul's adolescent life through to his development into adulthood. It suggests a journal kept by Paul in his youth by edited by him as an adult. At the beginning of the text Paul is fifteen, arrogant and very self centered. As the text progresses Paul physically, emotionally and socially changes. This is something that Paul himself cannot change as it a part of life. At school Paul was falling love " Megan's desk stood in front of mine and perhaps it was her back that I first loved…", then the feeling of love struck him. His perception of the girl he was once madly in love with changed suddenly, when he realized that he was living in a fantasy world "The sum of all the beauty is somehow less that its parts". This happened because Paul matured, therefore proves that change is inevitable. From this realization Paul builds up his self-confidence and gives Jimmy Pappa's musical advice. This leads Paul to become a member of their band and considered as one of them. Music becomes Paul's teenage rebellion against his parents and Keller because the music played in the band is low compared to the classical music they admire. All throughout the text Paul's ambition is to be perfect at everything he does including music. It is not until he grows up into adulthood that he realizes he has not achieved the perfection he has strived for "Now I was faced with myself for the first time, Paul Crabbe, greying, dissatisfied, fast approaching, mid life…". He comes to an acceptance of this. On the other hand Keller begins in the text as a very remote person. But he has not always been this way, music destroyed his life. He believed that playing for Hitler would protect his family from being executed. But this was not the case; music betrayed him "If you want people to believe your lies…set them to music". This shows that change is inevitable as Keller trusted Hitler and after the tragedy his perception changes and he had to accept that as a part of life. Keller lost all faith in music; he is unable to come to terms with his emotions. Emotionally Keller changes, as he has no longer got the ability to teach with emotion.

Parr displays how change is inevitable through the main figures in the artwork. The National Picture is a representation of Duterrau's The Conciliation. In Parr's representation the use of the central figure is changed to show that the White Man is not the saviour shown in the first painting. The white clothing symbolizes goodness. Instead of this figure being all one picture, there is a sketch of Truganinni's face (last Tasmanian Aboriginal) in their place. The other main figure, the trusting Aboriginal, is transformed into a representative of the Government. He is wearing a suit and tie and is very important. The Aboriginal People, their skins, spears, dogs, and kangaroos are represented as having changed by the concept of land ownership/measured, fenced and barren. This is to show that things could never stay the same and that change is unavoidable. It also shows that change over time is inevitable. Parr is trying to put forward the idea that our treatment of the Aboriginal People has still not changed. Parr is presenting the view that Aboriginal People are accepted by White Australia through our own cultural identity such as football and music. Parr is saying that White Australia is still mothering Aboriginal People and being 'Governors' of their affairs.

Orwell uses Winston Smith to show that change is inevitable. Winston is the central figure in the text and he feels very uncomfortable with the scrutiny and control that he experiences. He is a low ranking official in the Ministry of Truth. At this time everyone's lives are controlled and monitored. In an act of dangerous rebellion he starts to keep a diary of his illegal thoughts, his work involves him altering historical records to fit the Party agenda, but personal doubts are beginning to haunt him. At work he notices a girl Julia who he is attracted to but feels scared to let her know, worrying she might be part of the thought police. Winston often dreams of how he once stole the whole piece of chocolate that was given to his family. Winston now (184) regrets his behaviour. He also sees a link between his behaviour and the behaviour of the children who are educated by the Party. This proves that change is inevitable as Winston has changed his ways as he matured into adulthood. Winston knew that his illegal love affair with Julia was an act of revolution but still he proceeded.

Setting is and important part of Maestro. Goldsworthy has used the cartoon-like world to show that change is inevitable. The text is divided into several chapters; three of seven chapters are given place names as chapter headings "Darwin 167", "Adelaide", and "Vienna 175". These places show changes in Paul's position in the musical world. In Darwin he is at the top of the musical world, then in Adelaide he came third for a music competition and finally in Vienna, which he described as his "precious, priceless, experiences". The miniature world of Darwin created Paul's arrogance, as he thinks he is better than all. However, as he came out into he larger world of Vienna, he realizes that he is only a mediocre pianist. This realization has ended his pursuit of perfection. This shows that change is inevitable no matter where Paul lived.

Parr also shows how change is inevitable through the setting. In Duterrau's, The Conciliation, the background is full of life, it shows the Aboriginal People's love for their land. The grass is green and very earthy. Parr changes this perspective, the background is a lot more barren, in place of grass is cold, grey concrete. The mountains are more cold looking and not welcoming. The whole of the background looks very fake, and there is a cut out dog in the corner. Parr does this to show that the land could never stay as beautiful as it once was and that over time change is inevitable.

Orwell presents the idea that change is inevitable through the language. Through the text Orwell shows that history has been re-written, language has been re-invented as 'Newspeak' carefully eliminating all references to subversion or rebellion. Newspeak is the official language of Oceania and has been devised to meet ideological needs of Ingsoc. In the year 184, nobody really uses this language but it is assumed by 050 that it will replace English. Newspeak is to provide a medium expression for the world-view and to make thought impossible. Newspeak words are divided into three groups; A, B, and C vocabulary. The A vocabulary consists of words needed in business and everyday life for such things as drinking and working. The B vocabulary consists of words constructed for political purposes. The C vocabulary consists of technical and scientific terms. Doublethink is a manipulation of the mind. It makes people believe that the Party is the only constitution that distinguishes between right and wrong. It makes people accept contradictions. This new language presents that change is unavoidable to these people and that they have to accept it when they have to.

Relationships play a major part in Maestro. Goldsworthy presents change as being inevitable through Paul and Kellers relationship. Through this relationship it is easy to get a better insight into their characters. Paul's central relationship with Keller changes as he matures and tries to understand his teacher. Paul's first impressions are shown clearly in the first few lines " The pitted sun coarsed skin- a cheap ruined leather. And the eyes- and old mans moist wobbling jellies". There are many personal themes concerning Paul and Keller such as maturity, self-discovery and quest for perfection. Paul and Keller teach each other about life, love and reality, which bring them a lot closer than when they first met. When Paul realizes that he has not achieved his perfection, he believes that Keller is partly to blame, "In this sense Keller was bad for me, the worst possible teacher revealing perfection to me and at the same time snatching it away". This shows that change is inevitable as Paul and Keller could never stay the same, thinking that perfection is everything.

Parr presents that change is inevitable through the style of the artwork. Duterrau's artwork is a European style oil painting that shows a romanticised view of the re-location of the Aboriginal People by White People. Parr changes this to a life-size photograph. He uses harsh lighting and the background is very fake. The figures are not as free; they are very stiff with no negative space. There is a cut out dog on the side; this shows the reality of the treatment of Aboriginals, their land and their culture.

Orwell shows how change is inevitable through the new Government System. There is two Parties; the Inner Party and the Outer Party. The members of the Inner Party hold high posts in the country. They are filthy rich and have homes that look like palaces. The people of the Outer Party live in dull, grey, old flats. They lack in most essential things due to the war. The Oceania Party dictates the life of the Outer Party. The party of Oceania takes children away from their parents to educate them. The children are taught to report to the thought police if their parents have committed a 'thoughtcrime'. Party members mainly work for one of the four ministries( Minpax, Minitrue, Miniluv, and Miniplenty). Everything people do is recorded on telescreens. They all worship Big Brother. He is not a real person, all present as he is, all powerful and forever watching, he is only seen on TV. To Inner Party members, Big Brother is a leader, a man they can use to scare the people. For the unthinking proles, Big Brother is a distant figure. For Winston Big Brother is an inspiration. Winston is fascinated by Big Brother and drawn to him, developing a hate response that leads to his downfall. Inevitably the people have to accept change otherwise they could put their lives in danger.

Overall, Goldsworthy, Parr and Orwell have all shown that change is definitely inevitable. They have all proved it very clearly through the characters, figures, relationships, government, style, language and setting. All three composers have shown that change in our lives is unavoidable, no matter who we are or where we live.

The current state of the economy is heading back into a recession. However, I would advise Mr. Greenspan to leave interest rates alone and allow the economy to recover on its own, which is very probable. The March employment report is evidence that the economy is contracting. In addition to a decrease in employment, industrial production and spending are also decreasing. If the current economic conditions continue for much longer, the economy will go back into a recession.

However, the current weakness is dominated by Iraq uncertainty, the reason the central bank basically refused to even declare a policy bias. Whatever damage the Iraq war is doing to the economy, it is unlikely that a small cut in interest rates can make a difference. Given the fact that the federal funds rate is already at just 1.5%, investors and executives want to retain some type of back up in the event of an actual financial market crisis. Keeping all this in mind, a cut in rates cannot be ruled out. Even if Fed members see a benefit from a cut, they will be willing to reduce rates if confidence decreases anymore with investors and consumers.

I believe that Mr. Greenspan should leave the interest rate alone. As of right now the economy is actually in good shape despite the war with Iraq.It may seem like a good idea to lower the interest rates in the short run but when the long run is taken into consideration there is really no reason to change the current policy. Leaving the interest rate at its present level, it will be maintaining a stable long-term price, keep inflation at a low level, and hopefully keep unemployment at its current level. With these three factors in mind it makes sense to maintain the current interest rate because the three goals of monetary policy are to maintain long-term price stability, high levels of production, and a high level of employment. All of these things will most likely take place if Mr. Greenspan is to leave the interest rate alone. The investor and consumer confidence will begin to strengthen as the war with Iraq continues to go quickly and in our favor. With this increased consumption the firms will have the means and feel more comfortable with investing again. As the firms begin to invest more and more it will increase efficiency and make it possible for them to also lower their prices. In turn, with the lowering of their prices the firm will then be able to increase their output. With an increased output the firms will increase employment to keep up with the output demand. This will cause a slight inflation but with the inflation so low already the slight change will bring it to, at most, an average rate.

However, leaving the interest rate the current level does have its risks. If the expected outcome with the war with Iraq does not pan out the economy, which is already on the edge of a recession, will definitely fall into a recession. If the economy does not recover on its own after leaving interest rates alone it will take over a year for it to recover after the policy is enacted. This "lag" in the economy might cause the Fed to in turn ease its policy and stimulate the economy. As the federal funds rate falls, other short-term rates decrease, and this effect will ultimately affect the entire economy over a certain time. Banks can allow firms to increase investment and economic activity. Then the banks can supply more credit at lower borrowing costs. As investment and economic activity increases, output will rise and will unemployment fall.

Overall, Mr. Greenspan should put his faith in his country and leave the interest rates alone. The war with Iraq is expected to end very soon and will in turn put in a much-needed new life back into the economy.Consumer and investor confidence will increase which will stimulate the economy and benefit the country as a whole.

ISSUE- Do we need to be thin to be accepted and how big a part does the media play this???

Many people go through their lives being classed as different because of the way they look. Some are too fat, some too thin etc, but should this matter and is beauty only skin deep.

These pressures of being ¡§too fat¡¨ often lead to eating disorders. These eating disorders effect about 60 000 people in the UK. The two main types of eating disorders are,

æAnorexia

æBulimia

Anorexia is the deliberate loss of weight and sometimes when you avoid eating completely. Unlike normal dieting which stops when the desired weight is reached, anorexics continue to diet even when they have reached their average or healthy weight.

Bulimia is another serious eating disorder. Bulimics often binge eat and then make themselves sick. Most bulimics don¡¦t lose weight they just stay the same. This is because they eat a great quantity of food but then they make themselves sick, so they are neither losing nor gaining weight.

There are many cases through out the UK of this desire to lose weight. An example is the case of Samantha Kendall and her sister from Birmingham. At the age of fourteen and fourteen stone, the two sisters made a promise to go on a diet together. This desire to be thin and accepted led to them becoming seriously anorexic. By the time Samantha was twenty-six and four stone her sister d died from her anorexia. Her sister¡¦s death had shown her how dangerous anorexia could be. She started attending a special clinic in Canada and through excessive counselling and a healthy diet she regained a healthy weight. Unfortunately not ever one is as lucky as her.

One of the biggest pressures to be thin and accepted is ¡§Body Image.¡¨ Body image is how we see ourselves and how we want others to see us. No one is ever happy with their appearance and are always longing to look like someone else. Whether it¡¦s their hips, or her nose, we all paint a picture of a perfect body image in our heads.

The media drones this perfect ¡§body image¡¨ into us. TV shows, movies, commercials, magazines, models, and the radio are all responsible for this. The media provides these images of beauty, which influence people¡¦s perceptions of the acceptable body image. Unfortunately society¡¦s body image is not achievable.

88% of women say that there is a lot of pressure from the media to look perfect. In the movies it¡¦s always the thin and pretty girl that gets the guy. In fashion magazines we see stick skinny models on every page. This is what the media presents as being average. But the average model weighs % less than the average women. This fits into the criteria for being anorexic.

All these pressures lead to people believing that they would be happier if they were thinner. 4% of women believe that their lives would be easier if they were thinner and more attractive. I think that the media is mainly to blame for this, More should be done in the media to stop giving a false prospective of a perfect body image,

As for needing to be thin to be accepted, I want to believe that this is not true but society puts so much pressure on us to be ¡§perfect¡¨ it is hard to believe otherwise. But I do believe these pressures can be overlooked if you are proud of who you are and then true beauty can come from within!!!!!!

The classes of products in the Alberto-Culver North America and the Alberto-Culver International business segments include health and beauty care products, as well as food and household products. Health and beauty care products accounted for approximately %, 41% and 44% of the companys consolidated net sales for the years ended September 0, 1, 18 and 17, respectively. Alberto-Culver North America includes the Companys consumer products operations in the United States and Canada, and Alberto-Culver International sells consumer products in more than 10 other countries. Financial Ratios Analysis

Overall, the P/E ratios are low telling how this is not a hot sector in the opinion of the financial investors. In the first three years of the analysis the P/E ratio of the company shows a consistent growth that tells how investors where willing to pay more for the company's stocks, anticipating rapid earnings growth and trust in the future of the firm. In fact, the market condition leads the company to a 1 stock split in the year 17. The next two P/E ratios are lower and in declining trend with respect to the first three but given the stock split, the ratio confirms a growth of the earnings of the company. Despite the good results displayed by the P/E, the investors in the last two years seem no more as enthusiastic as in the beginning of the period. This leads to think the financial market is checking on the company, waiting for some kind of changes before investing, or that the personal & household products industry is not in the aim of the Wall Street speculation, given the recent focus on hi-tech and biotech stocks.

The Return On Assets ratio of the company shows a stable trend from 14 to 16. The trend for the company goes along with the trend of the industry as a whole. But in 17 there is an evident leap towards a higher return on assets with respect either with the company or the industry trend. The leap in more evident with comparison to the industry, being the company's ratio twice as high as the industry's. But even more interesting is that the industry dynamic is the same as the company's but one year lagged. This suggests how the relative small size of the company enables it to make quick decisions and to respond quickly to opportunities whether they come from a consumer or a trade partner and to move quickly to implement new ideas whether they coma from inside or outside the company. Peculiar is also the fact that the net income increases equally proportionally to the assets' increases, showing how assets and growth- rather than, say, financial debt and growth - are strictly positively correlated to grow the company has to invest in new assets.

The Return On Equity ratio is satisfying considering the rule of thumb upon which a 10 percent ROE is considered desirable for providing enough return to the owners of the company and still have funds to invest. More importantly, the company's ROE shows an increasing trend that tops in 17 with a considerable increase in net income. With respect to the industry, the company seems to be able to satisfy the owner's and investment's needs better until 17-8. In the most recent years the industry kept bettering its trend while the company did not. The problem here seems to be a company's net income that in the last three years has practically remained the same. Recently the company is no longer capable to guarantee an increasing turnover to the owners.

From 1 to 17 the profitability deriving from the sales has increased at a faster pace then the industry. But in the last two years, despite a stead increase in sales, the company cannot achieve the same profitability as before. Somehow the costs of production or sale have affected the company more then in the past years. The company's declining trend is a wake up call for a deep analysis on costs and an eventual intervention to decrease them.

Once again the company's Return On Sale shows a positive trend till 17 after which there is a decline. The 17 seems to be an extraordinary year for the company that tops its results in terms of ROS. In fact it is the only year in which the industry figures are lower then the company's. Overall, not a good sign for Alberto Culver Inc. that is spending more than average to get some net income. Another sign of problems on the expenses and costs side.

The earnings per share increase from 15 all through 1, which is a sign of strength of the company, that continues to top its net income results.

Another point of strength is the asset turnover ratio, which is way higher than the average industry. The only point of concern is that the 1 company's ratio is the lowest since 15. Overall the company is handling a fair volume of sales in relation to the investments, and the sale management and sales policy are doing well.

The days receivable ratio shows a protective selling policy that allows the company to turn credits into cash faster than the industry average. The company's trend is for an ever more strict credit policy as the industry remains roughly steady. The company could use a less severe credit policy to gain more customers and widen its market share without compromising its liquidity.

The days inventory goes in the same direction. Merchandise is sitting for a longer period of time, now, on the company's warehouses then before and a more aggressive selling approach could help to get rid of the products faster, increase the sales and speed up the inventory turnover.

On the other hand the latter is definitely under the industry average and it says how the company is already employing selling channels and techniques better than the competition. The sales division is definitely of no concern and it could even be better off, as stated above, with a more permissive sale credit policy.

The company's current ratio is doing fine. The company shows a good capacity to pay its current obligations and has room enough to face any shrinkage in its current assets. Assuming the threshold of, set by Dun and Bradstreet, as good the company is quite close to it and to the industry's. Since the 16 the ratio has been increasing showing this is an area of no concerning.

The acid test ratio needs a little care. The company is not capable to pay its current obligations as quickly as the competitors and the company is not in a liquid condition. Creditors in cash or near-cash assets are not well guaranteed. Longer-term debts should be taken into consideration if the company wants to reach more customers granting them longer deadlines for payments, without further compromising its liquidity.

The debt/equity ratio shows a good proportion between the creditors' interests invested in the company and the owners' interests. Overall the company tend to have more external debts than its competitors but the difference is very slight and of no concern for now. The difficulties encountered in having a good stock value are not helping the company though. To focus on the core operations and increase efficiency will eventually result in an increased stock value and a better appeal for the financial investors.

The long run solvency of the firm, indicated by the debt ratio, is good and is bettering over the years. compared to the industry, it is consistently lower, showing the company's better position over the competition.

Alberto Culver has a high capacity to pay the interest on its debt, and this puts the company in a favorable condition to roll over debts at cheaper rates than average. The industry's ratio, in fact, shows a much worse situation for the competition.

The dividend yield reflects the flat performance of the company's stocks in the last two years of the analysis. The years from '5 to '7 show a diminishing dividend yield partially due to the growing value of the company's stocks. This alone was the appealing element for new stock buyers and the company did not have to lure new investors with high dividend. But in the last two years the poor performance of the stocks has caused the management to increase the dividend to offset the idleness showed towards the company's stocks. This is, in fact, a mid-size company in a period when the focus of attention is on large cap companies and mega-mergers. It operates and sells through traditional channels in what seems, at this time in the markets' cycle, a dot.com world.

The dividend payout ratio is healthy showing a dividend way lower than the earning per share. The rest of the earning per share can be used, therefore, for reinvesting and expanding purposes. The increase in the ratio from 17 once again shows the need for the company to defend the stockholders from the poor stocks performance of the last two years with a slightly higher dividend.

Conclusions and recommendations

The middle size of the company allows it to remain nimble and take advantage of its agility to exploit any market opportunity. This is much needed considering the company's net income in the last three years has practically remained the same. This can compromise the ability to guarantee an increasing payoff to the stockholders and attract the interest of the investors. This is happening despite a steady increase in sales. The company cannot achieve the same profitability as before. Somehow the costs of production or sale have affected the company more then in the past years. A sure remedy could be a larger customer base. The company has room to loosen its credit policy. More customers could be reached without compromising the company's solvency and this course of action would definitely enlarge Alberto Culver market share.

Partly the slow performance of the financial side of the company is due to the fast innovations in the way business is conducted, brought about by the Internet revolution. But as long as the company keeps its core strengths up there is no worry. The market will return to recognize the company's good overall condition. In the meantime, it is important that Alberto Culver continue to innovate, continue to build its positions in its markets and continue to present the strengths of the company to the institutional and individual investment communities.

The way Greek government was prepared during 508 B.C., was that every little town surrounded by farms and nice Greece scenery was called a city-state. Each city- state had their own way of governing and most had a Democracy. Democracy means "Power to the People", in other words, instead of being ruled by only one person (Monarchy) its ruled by a few, just like we are ruled today in the United States and school.

Although our "governments" (school) are alike, our ways of living are very dissimilar in that we both focus on different aspects of life, like religion. Greek life was dominated by religion and competitive sports. If we where to take back the way of living (gov., sports, wars etc.) of the Greeks but only in our school, you would see many changes. For one, we would never have to worry about S.O.L.'s or any other tests because as I stated above, Greeks care more about you being able to fight and run, then being able to write a sentence. Many other things would change, for instants the way our teachers and "office officials" get paid and the amount they get paid. Back in Greek times, 508 B.C. all government officials where paid nothing. So, our "government officials" (teachers, office personal) would get nothing for their hard work. Another thing that would really change would be the way and how long our principals where picked or hired for. Every government official (in this case our teachers, principals, office workers, and janitors) would all only work for one year, then we (the people/students) would pick who we want and where we want them. Other things that would change would be the amount of pride and dignity we would have for our city-state (G.C. Marshall H.S.). Every single football game would be played as if it where our last chance of living, just like a Greek event.

For now I think we should just stick to our way of living, because most people now days aren't athletic enough to fight, so they would hold our "city-state" down.

The U.S. Department of Education's National Center for Educational Statistics show that approximately 60. million children are in elementary or secondary public schools and a surprising 1.1 million are home schooled. There are several reasons why parents are choosing to home school their children. One is that parents have much more control of what the child learns. Also, home schooled children are not subjected to pressure, nor are they required to learn at the same pace as other children. Another popular reason is the inadequate instruction in the public schools (Internet Education Exchange Tools For Fixing Public Education).

These are all very good reasons, but have parents thought about the isolations put on their children? Not only will they miss the opportunity of having more of a selection of friends, but children may also loose the opportunity of being in a culturally diverse environment. Do parents have the adequate amount of education themselves to educate their own children? Overall, home schooling is not an adequate form of education and should be taken into serious consideration.

In many cases, children who leave a traditional school for home school become unhappy because they miss their friends (www.home-school-information-software.com).Children also experience a lack of diversity. Public school classrooms in Southern California have a variety of cultural backgrounds; Asian, Hispanic, Black, White, Middle Eastern and American Indian are among the many. I went to University High School in West Los Angeles. We had a weekly newspaper distributed weekly. One time I read that we had difference types of cultures and ethnicities. As a teenager I remember being very happy to be among so many different nationalities and cultures.

Another important issue to take into consideration is how educated the parents are. Studies show that parents who home school their children are not properly equipped to create a proper curriculum for the child's key to success (www.home-schooling-information-software.com).. Children in grades 1st to 1th require a balanced educational curriculum, which include, English, Math, Social Studies, Physical Education, Reading, History, and Science.Statistics show that the number of college graduates in 180 were approximately, ,417 men and women graduated college. The number of college graduates has not increased tremendously; only 1. million have graduated high school since the year 001 (http//infoplease.lycos.com).

In conclusion, although there are many reasons why home schooling is considered, parents should also consider the complete outcome of their child's education. Parents should ask themselves "Am I doing the best that I can for my child"? "Will my child feel isolated and unhappy"? "Do I have substantial education to educate my child"? To insure your child receives the best education possible, it may be good to have a consistent report with the child's educators.

Are Americans Greedy?

When the thought first crosses my mind about whether the "American People" as a country are greedy I immediately think, "Hell no, we're not greedy, we work hard for what we get!" Then I start to think about all the things that we have done for other countries, the money we give to them, and the services that we provide. Now, at the close of a summer when record numbers of globetrotting Americans have been out to see the world, we wonder how the world sees us.Has the "ugly American" gotten any easier on the eyes? As each sentences is written out I will look at certain ideas that might hinder what foreigners think of Americans and how it plays on us – The Ugly Americans.I will look at the personalities of Americans, how they are money wise, and in what ways we "stand out."

The American personality is one that is very strong.Americans have a particular look, a way of walking and dressing, and all have certain traits, which stand out among foreigners. Jayne Clark, a writer for the USA TODAY says that "they are not to knowledgeable about history (some recognize the Poseidon only as a ship in a disaster movie), but they're more likely to ask for the location of the nearest bathroom than for the services of a guide." Still, she maintains, " compared to other people Americans are pretty polite and less demanding. You tell them the main things, let them rest in the shade, give them time for photographs, and they're happy." Our personalities may be different from that of people from different countries but our individuality is one that makes us that much stronger as a whole and gives us the freedom to move on.

A huge factor when determining the level of American greed is MONEY.Money is the root of all evil and is the one thing that can solve all problems.Money is what every man and women want and what millions of people die over every year.Almost our entire image of a greedy nation comes from money.A man by the name of Arthur Frommer claims that "it was the bloated dollar that gave shape to the nasty image in the first place. When the dollar is strong and we feel ourselves as kings of the land and look down at [others], we become the ugly Americans," he says."I have seen Americans hold out a handful of change to a vendor in a marketplace and say, 'Take what you think its worth.' In other words, ' your currency is nothing.'" Since coming home from a trip to Europe I had made my own assumption about whether Americans were greedy or not, and I feel that is it not that Americans demand more, just that Europeans demand less.Americans are polite and tend to accept what they get at the time, and complain later.

One of the biggest factors of the American personality is there ability to stand out in a crowd."You don't have to look very far to see outrageous behavior.Go to any European city in July, and you'll see Americans who stand out," says Dean Foster, an executive with Global Intercultural Services.Indeed one of the major reasons for this is the pesky language barrier.Angelo Arrigoni, who has a grocery store near St. Peter's Basilica describes this summer's crop of Holy Year pilgrims as "simple and undemanding." However, "they do have trouble sometimes grasping the concept that anyone in the world – including me – might not be able to speak English. They talk at me endlessly, despite the fact that I clearly don't understand." It has been commonly associated with Americans as being impatient and arrogant, since coming from a fast paced society with high expectations regarding services.

So now that each side of the situation has been closely looked at and researched it is now the time to decide whether the American people are considered greedy. For me I feel that there are to many factors to look at and discuss to come to a final conclusion right now about what I think of Americans. So right now I am leaving it up to you to decide what you think, are Americans greedy?

Workplace Stress and the Family

According to several articles I reviewed on the Internet, technology has increased stress in the workplace. In the following pages I will discuss one of the articles I read and how the increased use of technology has impacted workplace stress. I will also examine ethical issues that may be raised due to stress in the workplace.

A survey conducted by Kensington Technology Group in 1, revealed that nearly half the employees surveyed felt technology had increased stress in their workplace. In an article titled, Technology Increases Workplace Stress, Tipping the Scales of Work-Life Balance, it was stated, Technology is a double-edged sword that enhances workplace productivity at the cost of increasing stress on workers… (http//www.Kensington.com/html/1.html). The employees surveyed sited the use of computers and the Internet as a cause of stress. Some employees were worried about losing important documents if their computers crashed, never mind the rampant exposure to various computer viruses. With the addition of cellular phones, fax machines, etcetera, they were also concerned about the fact that e-mail and voicemail increased their stress. While the use of computers has made most jobs easier it has increased stress. Workers are now expected to have a higher output of work, respond to e-mail/voicemail outside of working hours, and be readily accessible. It is not uncommon to see an individual driving down the freeway with a cellular phone pasted to their ear. Meetings are now being held globally over the telephone or via the Internet. Where do you find the balance between work and family life with the increased technology?

Increased use of technology has definitely affected the family element. Rarely do you find families who sit down together for meals. Sometimes family members may not see each other for days due to deadlines to be met at work or extra curricular school activities for the children. No longer do people put in an eight-hour shift at work and go home for the day. Work is being carried into the home. Husbands, wives and children are increasingly complaining about lack of affection or quality time with other family members. There seems to be a higher incidence of divorce and infidelity. If you spend more time with a co-worker and less time with your spouse how can you be expected to keep a healthy family relationship?

More and more workers are finding it difficult to maintain a healthy balance between work and home. Instead of leaving the stressors of work where they belong the negative stress is being bought into the home. Employers are finding it necessary to implement programs to assist families with issues such as substance abuse, suicide prevention, and divorce, which seem to increase with stress from the workplace. It seems life was a lot easier when it was slower. Communication done through the U. S. Postal Service took longer and left more time to enjoy life and concentrate on personal matters. Mothers and fathers knew the where-bouts of their children and who their friends were. Parents spent more time in the home with their children, which may account for better grades and higher self-esteem. Although some did, most children did not have to look to others for validation. Family values may have helped deter experimentation with sex and drugs. Not that these things werent explored in the past, but it was more difficult with parents in the home on a regular basis and involved in their childrens lives.

Increased technology also brings about the question of workplace ethics. Privacy has become a major issue of concern and cause for stress. Where do we draw the line between employee right to privacy and the employers right to certain information? If someone in the workplace leaves his or her e-mail account open is it appropriate to browse his or her account? Is it so bad that workers need to be paranoid when they leave their desks, wondering if they left their account open? Some employers and co-workers may feel it is okay to look at an open account. They feel the information may be pertinent to the job at hand. As long as they dont purposely open the account in search of information some may feel they are justified. There is also the issue of individuals who use the work computer for personal business. It seems this would be okay but where do we draw the line? Is someone who uses the Internet to purchase plane tickets as bad as someone who may be viewing sites involving sexual content? Either way the workplace computer is being used for a purpose outside what it was intended for. What about employers who monitor their workers use of the computer all together? I happen to know of employers who can access an employees computer at any time, and they do. Is that right? Some say yes some say no. It all depends on what is accepted in that workspace and the justification for it.

I must admit technology is not all bad. In this paper I attempted to bring up some of the negative effects of technology. All in all I feel technology has been a great benefit to us all, both in the workplace and in the home. The stresses we feel and what we do with it is all in the way we perceive things. Technology may be a factor but ultimately we choose how we deal with stress. Life is not without stress. We as people must take an active role in managing it, whether on the job or in the home.
