Jerome, however, is not quite perfect. What would a perfect person be doing, selling his identity? He had been an Olympic swimmer, possibly the best that had ever been, but his best was still insufficient for the gold. Burdened with a mere silver medal, Jerome had stepped in front of a car to ensure that he would never be second best again. Nevertheless, Jerome muses, he couldnt even do that right and ended up stuck in a wheelchair, paralyzed from the waist down. In order to maintain the lifestyle to which he was accustomed and to avenge himself upon the system that had so wronged him, Jerome determined to sell his identity to an inferior, an in-valid. Vincent manages to pass as Jerome Morrow while working at Gattaca, though Jerome, in his hardened, cold superiority, tells him, Youll never be me.

Vincent, it soon appears, is not the only one at Gattaca who is less than perfect, though he is the only one who has his position by stealth. A fellow employee, Irene Cassini--no doubt a beneficiary of some anti-genoist policy--works with Vincent at Gattaca, despite her acceptable risk of heart disease. She might have her dream too, but she seems defeatedly to accept her cultures appraisal of her worth, relegated to clerical work despite her intellectual gifts and beauty.

III

But this is not the conclusion of the story. If it were, it would be as if we had left Abels blood crying from the ground and Cain wandering through a wasteland. Happily, there is more--the promise of redemption remains.

Though Anton may never have accepted Vincent, Jerome proves a friend who sticks closer than a brother. By giving of his own flesh to Vincent, of his shed blood and water, Jerome learns compassion, sacrifice, and love. Through these graciously given gifts, and the daily purging of his own dead flesh and defilements, Vincent does indeed become another Jerome, one who is of the Holy Name. And Jerome becomes Eugene, one who is truly well born. Out love for his adopted brother, Jerome is able to rise above his own perfect genetic endowments--poignantly signified by a spiral stair, an echo of DNAs double-helix, made crooked by God.

Going up to Titan was Vincents goal for which he worked and strove, but Irene seems a reason to stay. As they both succumb to the heart dis-ease of love, Irene begins to realize that her worth is not defined by her genetic lot or societys ranking and that love without conditions or suspicion makes for new possibilities. Irene (peace) puts Vincents mind to rest and allows him to see that reaching Titan is not the only goal, but that much remains for him here.

Still, Vincent will ascend to the heavens, up there to Titan. He may not know what lies ahead for him there, he tells Jerome, but he plans to find out. Vincent notes that Titan is a place that Jerome would like, since there his paralyzed legs wouldnt matter anymore. When Vincent finally leaves for his heaven, Jerome thanks him. After all, while Jerome may have given Vincent his body, Vincent gave Jerome his dream. Through this exchange Jerome has accepted who he is--no longer merely second best--and, in his own complete sacrifice, expects in some way to accompany Vincent in his heavenly travels.

As Vincent goes to board the ship, he will pass through a tunnel, but this will not be the first tunnel he has traveled. Earlier, with his Irene, Vincent passed through a tunnel and came to a road which, through an almost blind faith, Please note that this sample paper on df is for your review only. If you order your college papers from our custom writing service you will receive a perfectly written assignment on monitor, yoiur best friend. What we need from you is to provide us with your detailed paper instructions for our experienced writers to follow all of your specific writing requirements. Specify your order details, state the exact number of pages required and our custom writing professionals will deliver the best quality monitor, yoiur best friend paper right on time.

Our staff of freelance writers includes over 120 experts proficient in monitor, yoiur best friend, therefore you can rest assured that your assignment will be handled by only top rated specialists. Order your monitor, yoiur best friend paper at affordable prices!

Welcome to the year 00 where for example you will find a computer in 7 out 10 family households. With the computer you find, you will basically see a keyboard, the speakers, the system unit, the printer, and the most useful output device, the monitor, your best friend. The reason why the monitor is considered the most useful output device is because it provides the user with all the images, graphics, or text he or she uses. Without the monitor, the user will not know what her or she is doing.

Today, the most commonly used computer monitor is the Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) monitor. The first controllable CRT monitor was developed by a German scientist named Karl Ferdinand Braun in 187. However, it was not until the early 140's that the CRT monitor was used on television sets and throughout the years, improvements have been made to be used on compu- ters.

The CRT monitors come in various sizes ranging from 15 inches to inches. The bigger these monitors are, the more information you are able to see on the screen, and the more expensive they are to the users. The screen on the CRT monitor are either slightly curved or flat panels depending on the user. Of course, there is a price difference between the two.

A CRT monitor is a large sealed glass tube with no air inside. It begins with a slim neck and increases in size outward until it forms a large base called the screen. The screen is coated with thousands of tiny phosphor dots. Each of these dots consist of three blobs of colored phosphor, one red, one green, and one blue. These three dots combine to make up a pixel which is a single point in an electronic image. Inside the back of the CRT monitor, the electron gun is located. The electron gun is composed of the cathode, heat source, and focusing elements. Each color has its own electron gun. The images are formed when electrons fired from the electron gun come together to a single spot on the surface of the CRT.The electrons must be precise when they are fired from the electron gun because these three colors make up all of the thousand of colors on the images seen. When each of the primary colors are added in equal amounts, they form a white spot, while the absence of any color creates a black spot. When the colors are not precise, a shadow appears. These shadows are the ones used in text and graphic images. In order for the electrons to reach the phosphor, they pass through the monitors focusing elements. The focusing elements are set up to focus the electron flow into a very thin beam and then into a specific direction. This is how the electron beam lights up the specific phosphor dot. The electrons are drawn to the phosphor dots by a positive charged anode that is located near the screen.

Around the neck of the CRT, the deflection yoke is located. This creates a magnetic field that controls the direction of the electron beams. This guides the electron beams to strike the proper position on the screen. Striking the position on the screen starts at the top left corner and flashes on and off as it moves across the row to the right corner. When it reaches the edge of the screen, it moves down to the next line and this time moves from right to left. As the electron beams move from right to left, they need to coincide with the electron beams from the row before so that the retraceable lines are invisible. The beam repeats this process until all the lines on the screen are traced moving down to the bottom and then to the top of the screen where it is ready to display the next image.

The most important aspect of a monitor is the resolution. The resolution describes the sharpness and clearness of the images and it is stated as pixels. The greater the number of pixels on the monitor, the better the quality of the image will be. The standard SVGA resolution is 800 by 600 pixels, where 800 is the number of pixels horizontally and 600 being the number of pixels vertically which create a screen image with a total of 480,000 pixels. Most monitors can display up to 180 by 104 pixels depending on how the user wants to use it. Displays with higher resolution use a greater number of pixels, but as the resolution increases, the images on the screen appear smaller. This is why large monitors typically use higher resolution and smaller monitors use lower resolution.

Dot pitch is a another important factor in a monitor that is used to measure the clarity of an image. Dot pitch is the distance between each pixel on an image. The smaller the distance is between the pixels, the sharper the image will be and the less eye fatigue the user will get. Today, the standard dot pitch is . millimeters and ranges to . millimeters.

Another factor in a monitor's quality is the refresh rate. Refresh rate is the speed at which a monitor redraws the images on the screen. A cathode ray tube monitor refresh rate has to be fast to maintain a constant flicker free image. If the CRT monitor has a slow refresh rate, then the image fades and flickers as it is redrawn thus causing eye fatigue and headaches to some users. The monitors refresh rate is measured in hertz which is the number of times per second the screen is redrawn. Most monitors provide a refresh rate of at least 75 hertz, meaning that the image on the screen redraws itself 75 times in a second.

All of these factors make up the quality of a monitor which create a clear image on the screen and not causes eye fatigue or headaches to the user. With all of these elements described, one sees why the monitor is the most useful output device in the computer. Please note that this sample paper on monitor, yoiur best friend is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. In case you experience difficulties with writing a well structured and accurately composed paper on monitor, yoiur best friend, we are here to assist you.Your college papers on monitor, yoiur best friend will be written from scratch, so you do not have to worry about its originality.

Pursuit of Dangerous Knowledge in Frankenstein & Faust

The story of Frankenstein is based on the main character, Dr. Victor Frankenstein, attempts to surge beyond accepted human limits and access the secret and power of giving life. Victor isolates himself from the world, which twists his perception of reality and nullifies his ability to determine consequences of his actions. His intentions for his research and creation were initially noble, or at least not evil. The term Frankenstein means, a monstrous creation that ruins its originator. The aftereffects of work pursued too far, in a seemingly consequence free state of mind, yielded a detrimental outcome.

The book gives you a picture of Victor's seemingly ideal life.Victor has a relationship with his family and has friends and acquaintances from the university he is attending. He is very intelligent and is especially interested in the sciences, particularly with science dealing with life.Victor begins to isolate himself becoming more and more infatuated with his work.He develops a sort of scientific myopia where he only focuses on his one goal, the creation of life. He works without the thought of consequence.

"So much has been done, exclaimed the soul of Frankensteinmore, far more, will I achieve; treading in the steps already marked, I will pioneer a new way, explore unknown powers, and unfold to the world the deepest mysteries of creation." (Shelly, 40)

He not once stops and thinks what will happen when he gives life to the monster. When successful in his experiment, the Monster comes to life and disgusted he rejects it and denies all responsibility for his creation. The monster swears to get revenge for his creation. The Monster acts on his threat of revenge and by stories end has killed all people who victor was close to.At the end he meets up with victor, who is on his deathbed and The Monster tells Victor that now he can feel the pain that he has created for him. "I, the miserable and the abandoned, am an abortion, to be spurned at, and kicked, and trampled on." (8) Soon after, Victor dies.

Faust, written by Johann Wolfgang Goethe, is a story of a man who desires infinite knowledge and sells his soul to Lucifer to get it. He goes against the then accepted beliefs that man must not seek to go beyond the limits set by God. However the Devil promises Faust unlimited power for a limited time and then, as repayment, takes Fausts soul to Hell.

Faust is a very learned professor, who is dissatisfied with human knowledge, which by its nature is limited. He threw his life away for the sake of knowledge, becoming obsessed with the all of the knowledge that he could possess. This was Faust's myopia and he would do anything to achieve it.After his allotted time, the Devil comes to claim his soul. His desire for knowledge ends up turning on him and lead to his undoing.

Victor Frankenstein and Faust are connected by their desire to achieve a goal, and once achieved, it turns on them and destroys them. The intentions of their quests to reach their goals were noble. They did them in the name of scientific advancement.Curiosity is what fuels both Faust and Victor. However in the end, when they face the creation of their extreme curiosity, it ends up turning on them and being the cause of their deaths.

Once Faust and Victor became wrapped up in what they have started, they are unwilling to stop and are consumed by their visions until they have succeeded. They shut down all thought, reason and future consequences and focus strenuously on there on goal.

Victor and Faust work hard with no thought of consequence. They both worked blindly, only seeing what they desired, their distance from reality and blindness to any sort of repercussion of their actions ended up bringing them to their demise when faced with their creation.

It seems that we all have someone insight on who we believe to be an ideal role model, such as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes. He was a fictional character in literature that came to become one of the most popular people who were ever born. But this dear Sherlock was not born that of a woman, but by an author who wrote with passion. And yet he seemed to surpass the popularity of some very well known people such as presidents, actors, legends, and even people who have created history. What made him so popular? Well that would be because of his ability to use forensic science to solve many of his mysteries. His ability to appear almost invincible, and his attitude towards his career, "The rest of our work must be done, and every moment is of importance. We have our case, and now we only want our man."

1b Baker Street is the address of our dear detective, Mr. Sherlock Holmes, who is responsible for bringing many people to justice. He was hailed as being one of the best detectives in English literature because of his superior style and technique as a detective. He solved his cases with something that is known today as forensic science. Many people believed that this was a very interesting technique because it was not really used back then and was really polished up very recently.I would say that doctors, scientists, and even readers were amazed at his ability and his style, something that was very rare.I believe that many people came to like him because he used all of his resources very wisely. He was able to come to a decision or deduction based on what may have appeared to be very vague, fuzzy clues, but in the end turning out to be vital in the arrest of a suspect or criminal, such as in the book called The Hound of The Baskervilles.Who would of thought that Mr. Stapleton would be the killer and yet distant relative of Sir Charles and Sir Henry? Well it wasn't obvious that Holmes would be the one to distinguish between fact and fiction.

Sherlock Holmes seemed to be an almost invincible person. It was assumed that he had passed on after a tragic fall shortly after a struggle with Professor Moriarty, but Sir Conan didn't give up and after a short years the detective was brought back. Why did he bring him back to life? I would say that it was because of popular demand and with a limited supply and high demand, a higher price, and that would mean that Sir Arthur would have to sacrifice rest and begin to publish his stories.Invincibility stood out when Sherlock Holmes appeared as the man on the torr, who was residing on the moor in Devonshire, while Dr. Watson worked on the case of the hound. It would seem that being invincible would be almost impossible for a detective, especially since there is a high risk involved on these cases.

As in many cases, most people are like by their bosses because of their attitude towards their work, just how Holmes is towards his.He enjoys what he does and I also believe this to be another factor towards his popularity between readers. Many people like to see people enjoy what they like to do best.People admired Holmes not only because of his attitude to his work, but also his determination and ability that he was given as a human being in a fictional English work of literature.

We sometimes just cannot only have our minds set on a living person to be such a role model for us, but we must also have to look deep into the heart of English literature, just as how many people have done.I mean what made Mr. Holmes popular was that of his inspired readers, his ability as a detective, and a lot went into his attitude towards the way he accomplished his job. From his deductions he was able to solve cases and in many other ways to prove someone guilty, no matter how innocent they appeared. He was loved and popularized by his readers and his inspired fans.

Please note that this sample paper on Sherlock Holmes is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. In case you experience difficulties with writing a well structured and accurately composed paper on Sherlock Holmes, we are here to assist you.Your research papers on Sherlock Holmes will be written from scratch, so you do not have to worry about its originality.

Senior Citizens

Today with a number of people approaching the age of maturity, which will soon drastically increase due to the Baby Boomers, more people under the age fifty will have the burden of paying for those seniors. An end result will be that the government will raise costs for goods and medical services, which again more of the younger generation will have to pay a larger amount too.

Right now, with the current expenditures of Social Security to senior citizens, federal taxes will increase beginning on or around the year 010.This increase will start paying back the Social Security fund which will be operating in a deficit. As of now many politicians and the Social Security Administration pretend that this problem doesn't exist, and that there is nothing to worry over.If nothing is changed between now and then, there are only two choices, both of which seem impossible cut benefits or raise taxes on still employed workers.By this time the Baby Boomers will have already paid major amounts of money into Social Security, some as much as $50,000 a person.By the time this group approaches the retirement age, the younger people will have suffered a significant decrease in the standard of living due to the considerable increase in income taxes to support the retired population. When this occurs, the retired will have the longest laid-back retirement, which by then will be the longest recorded retirement in human history. This problem will be due to the Government and Social Security.

By the time the current youth reaches the age of getting the benefits of Social Security, retirement, and Medicare, there will be less coming to them than the elderly of today. It should be considered that now would be the correct time to review the notion of giving out senior citizen discounts to such a large degree. There also should be a cut back on who exactly gets Medicare. The Government should consider giving benefits only to the elderly that are truly in need of medical attention. In some cases this is already starting to be done. The percentage of physicians willing to accept new Medicare patients has dropped by fourteen percent since June 001. These physicians primarily are located in California and Texas. The reasoning behind this is the Medicare+Choice program. This program was established to ease elderly into managed care.Medicare+Choice is currently suffering from dissatisfaction with HMO payment rates; which is causing physicians to drop out Medicare patients or reduce services.Within the year 001 over 64,000 beneficiaries were dropped.

Some of the younger population that have illnesses and diseases are also in desperate need of money; they are the ones that don't have a constant flow of money coming to them.By the time the youth of today has grown and aged there will be little to nothing left for them. Benefits to the elderly should not be completely eliminated, but the system should be adjusted to help everyone out equally, not just one particular section of the population.

Today more people give benefits and help to the elderly, the people we call senior citizens (ages 50 and up), where there is less help for people under the age of fifty. Not all people with illnesses and diseases are senior citizens; sadly enough, most are younger patients, and some are even children. An issue that makes it even more sad is that some of these children and young patients who are dying and suffering get a reduced amount of attention because they don't have a steady amount of money coming to them, unlike a lot of senior citizens.

For example, senior citizens are already getting the benefits of Social Security, pensions, Medicare, and discounts from places such as restaurants, movie theatres, and many others.Where is the equality to the younger generation, the generation that wasn't born a Baby Boomer or earlier?

Should senior citizens with high prescription drug cost have their costs subsidized? Maybe so, but there are younger health patients with serious illnesses that also require very expensive drug prescriptions, and some of them receive no financial support from the government at all.Why is that? Some of these younger patients receive no benefits from Medicare, unlike most senior citizen patients. Some of the younger patients are able to get Medicaid, which is equivalent to Medicare. Though there is one catch, the parents have to make a certain amount of money to be able to qualify for Medicaid.

As difficult as some of these questions may seem, they still should all be properly addressed. In years to come, cases will be brought to court of age discrimination in

medical issues. Why do senior patients get more attention than ones of the younger age? Why are elderly patients getting their bills covered by the government and younger patients are not? Cases such as these will be difficult for some courts and judges to handle. There isn't much that can be done when a child's parent doesn't receive the

correct type of insurance needed through their job to cover their child's medical issues and concerns. Currently a program called CHIP (Children's Health Insurance Program) was founded.CHIP was designed so a child can still receive insurance, even though a parent(s) has a higher income and doesn't qualify for Medicaid. So something is starting to happen. CHIP is only one program though, why aren't there more?

In conclusion, the government needs to become fairer to people of all ages and not just of one section of the population.Everybody in the U.S. needs adequate care.Seniors do receive the majority of long and short term care, but children do need care as well.

whites heap upon them and the self-hatred whites try to teach them. That scene of preaching contrasts in Sethes mind with the last months of Baby Suggs life, in which she felt beaten by the whites and just wanted to think about color. Sethe then remembers her travel from the riverbank where Amy left her to Baby Suggs house. She is picked up by Stamp Paid and brought by Ella the rest of the way. When she arrived at Bluestone Road, Baby Suggs cleaned her feet and back and let her see her children, the boys and the two-year old girl. Sethe has Baby Suggs remove the crystal earrings from her old dress and dangles them for the entertainment of the girl, who surprises her by crawling already. She remembers the 8 days between her arrival and the babys death as the time when she learned to claim ownership of herself and be free. As Sethe sits in the clearing and contemplates these losses, she feels fingers massage her neck. She assumes it is the ghostly presence of Baby Suggs, but soon she is nearly choked. Then Denver calls for her, and the fingers release her. Beloved sees the bruises on Sethes neck and strokes them and kisses them soothingly until Sethe pushes her away. Sethe is rejuvenated on the walk back, planning an elaborate dinner for her new family. She greets Paul D, bathing in the tub, and as they stand entwined Beloved catches sight of them and cannot bear to lose Sethes attention. She returns to look in the stream, Denver appearing beside her. Denver accuses Beloved of choking Sethe, but Beloved counters that the circle of iron did it and that she fixed the wound. Once Beloved runs off, Denver contemplates the time she went to Lady Jones school and began learning to read and write until Nelson Lord, a boy at the school, asked her a question about her mother. After that she ceased to go to the school, and she suddenly lost her hearing when she asked Sethe to explain Nelsons question to her. It was then that Denver became obsessed with the baby ghost, whose sound of crawling on the stairs finally caused her hearing to return. Now in the present, Denver wonders if Sethe is in danger from Beloved. She remembers Nelson Lord asking if Denver was locked away with her mother after the murder, and her own cloudy memories are stirred. Rejoining Beloved, Denver watches her stare as two turtles slowly mate. The story of Paul Ds past begins Chapter 10. He trembles inside, we are told, after leaving Misters (the roosters) sight. He is being taken away to jail in Alfred, Georgia. Paul D is sent to jail for trying to kill Brandywine, the man schoolteacher sold him to. This jail is compromised of 46 boxes buried in the ground for the men to sleep in, from which they emerge each morning after a rifle shot. They then thread the chain for the chain gang through their legs. After being forced to perform oral sex on the white guards, they spend their day in hard labor. After 86 days in prison, Paul D feels life is dead. Then, in a heavy rain, the men on the chain gang communicate with each other by tugs to the chain and manage to escape from their boxes, swimming out through the wet mud. Their escape takes them to a settlement of sick Cherokee who refused to be sent away from their lands after numerous betrayals by the U.S. government. The Cherokee befriend them and give them directions. Paul D learns from them to follow the spring blossoms and to head North, which he does until he arrives at a weaver ladys house in Delaware. He stays there eighteen months, during which time he put all his memo ... Please note that this sample paper on Beloved is for your review only. The Violence is Fake, The Impact is Real

In the essay, "The Violence is Fake, the Impact is Real," Ellen Goodman demonstrates that despite the fact of violence on television is fake, the image it engraves in the minds of children are not.Goodman points out that advertisers know what children watch affects them. However, the same advertisers tell parents that children are not affected by what they watch. To back up her argument, Goodman provides theories by the government on television violence. They believe that just as kids learn their "ABC's" at an early age, they also learn morals and values from the things they are exposed to, such as programs broadcasted on TV.The government also believes that if kids are exposed to "aggressive behavior" at a young age then they will "accept it as normal behavior." Goodman also points out that if the media were to show the harmful affects of violent behavior, it would shed a new light of reality onto the children in our society today.

In "The Violence is Fake, the Impact is Real," Ellen Goodman vividly illustrates the negative effects of television violence on children. It is a shocking reality that R-rated scenes of a gory murder are now acceptable in our homes for children to view.It is shameful that, in the past, actions of this nature frightened and upset children but today, such scenes of violence are viewed as entertaining and exciting.Media, movie producers, and the entertainment industry should re-examine the messages they are conveying to children because, unfortunately, make-believe and pretend has become a reality in the minds of children.

In her article, Goodman several times states that children who view violence on television do not realize the real-life effects. They see only the action and not the reaction.Children see violent action as only fun and entertainment with heroes. They do not understand that a single gun-shot can cause death in a movie and bring about sorrow in real life to those around them.More importantly, they do not understand that in real life close friends and family members often spend a lifetime of suffering due to a loved one lost to an act of violence.

Goodman makes a good point about implementing the Japanese customs of showing consequences to the act of violence seen by the viewer. In America, we should follow Japan's lead in showing the reaction to violence in programs as well as the action. For example, "Law and Order" opens up with a tragic scene to catch the audience's attention but ends by showing the punishment. The show follows the long and tedious legal process involved in bringing perpetrators of violence to justice. On the other hand, shows such as "The Sopranos" and "Oz," which are not marketed toward children, but are considered "cool" for children to watch, repeatedly depict random and senseless acts of violence. This includes rape and homicide, and they show little or no consequences for the perpetrator of violence.Producers should bring the reality of violence home more often so that children can see the whole experience. They might then realize the consequences in harming others.

In the article, "The Violence is Fake, the Impact is Real," the author clearly supports the idea, that children are adversely affected by violence on television. She states that there should be quality television shows during the daytime hours for children to learn to love and care for one another. If there were more suitable networks for children, they might learn better character traits that would ensure high moral values. This would alleviate the amount of adult content watched by children on a daily basis.

In conclusion, the entertainment industry is presenting children with the wrong image of violence and crime.Solutions to this problem might include more realistic depictions of the consequences of violent actions, and the suffering that violence can cause. There is a sad shortage of quality children's programming on television today. An important issue the author ignores is that of parent responsibility.Perhaps if parents, along with the entertainment industry showed more concern about what children are watching, there might be a better and more diverse selection of children's programming.

class profile

One of Simon's classes was ¡®grammar' for intermediate level. This class used ¡®Focus on Grammar' as a textbook. The every unit starts with reading section, which makes Ss involve in the grammar focus or point.

First of all, the T elicited the contents of the article from the pictures or title without looking at the real text and let Ss read the article. And after then the T checked the difficult words that Ss faced on. And the T taught the notes of grammar step by step. While teaching each point, the T let Ss make a sentence using that they were studying at and the T made Ss present their sentences, which they've just made. So if the Ss didn't understand the grammar point, they couldn't make any sentences. As a result, the Ss should concentrate on studying and wake up during the class. Frequently, the Ss also had a chance to make a short dialogue using grammar points with their classmates. After T's explanation about grammar, Ss were supposed to solve the questions in the textbook. Sometimes, the T prepared activities that offered the chance to practice the grammar that they've just learned and talk each other. T tried hard to make the class interactive.

There were three Korean women, two Japanese(one is female and the other is male), two Chinese men and one Taiwanese woman in this class. They were pretty close each other. The age range of this class was from 1 to years old and the average of age of this class was 4 years old. And all of them are international students.

Two Korean women, Kate and Kathy, were really good at grammar, and their work(answers) were always outstanding in this class. Especially, Kathy's speaking was very fluent, she was pretty much proud of herself and she kept asking something all the time. Whenever she asked some questions, those questions were that I wanted to know before. So I was really attentive when she asked some questions. Normally, I sat bedside her so she often asked some questions about English to me, but I wasn't sure about the answers. She gave me a lot of challenges in many ways. For example, she is so energetic so that she made the class alive, Moreover, I wanted to learn her attitude about studying English, I mean, she usually kept curiosity about English so she was always ready to get something from the outside of her.

Two Chinese men often skipped the class and they were not good at listening so that when my teacher gave some tasks, they did them a little differently from T's instructions(directions). But my T usually encouraged them.

And the Japanese guy was really funny, for example, whenever he presented his answers, he spoke like a real situation and his voice was interesting. I think he has a good sense of humor. So I was always waiting for his talking.

All of the Ss studied hard in this class because they thought ¡®grammar' is very important for basic element of English. And most of them studied English for the better job life in the future.

Even though this class was grammar class, there were lots of chances to speak each other. And T made Ss involve in a specific situation of grammar points so that the Ss could understand the grammar points better. This class was like a conversation class in my point of view. The T tried to give the same chance to speak out for the every S.

In addition, this class has a discipline about late arrivals of the class because half of Ss were always late for class. So whenever the Ss weren't on time, they should pay one dollar for penalty but everyone didn't care about this discipline.

I like this class because the Ss were so friendly, they were eager to study English and there were nice attitudes to help each other like between friends. So I would like to make my future grammar class like this class, I mean, there are plenty of interactions between the Ss and T and nice atmosphere for studying English. T gives a lot of praises to the Ss so that they can be encouraged all the time.

When she came to UK to work, she was on a rollercoaster of emotions-- scared, excited, confident, insecure, homesick...

Scared of what she will be encounteringculture shock, different nursing style, language barrier (multiple accents), state-of-the-art equipment (touch screen monitors, arterial lines, swan ganz catheters, intra-aortic balloon pumps, ecmo- a lung bypass machine, nitric oxide, continuous veno-venous hemofiltration-a dialysis machine, cpap machine-continuous positive airway pressure).....so scared that she was having doubts whether she would be able to prove my nursing competence… So scared that she did not want to go on duty... so scared that she wanted to go home.

Excited to be independent and detached from the safe and secure bosom of her family... Excited to be free to do what she want as long as she is aware of her limitations... excited to learn new things.... excited to be working on a specialized unit.

Confident that she will be able to prove that she will be a well-motivated and competent nurse.....confident to be recognized as an effective and efficient nurse....this so-called inspiration may be attributed to the presence of Filipinos in the cardiac unit who are doing very well. There was a tiny spark of hope that she will also make it.

Insecure because she came from a third world country with limited medical and technological experiences when it comes to equipment. And not to mention that she come from a private hospital in the province. This will indicate that she will have limited experiences when it comes to cardiac patients. As we all know, there are limited medical cardiac procedures done in the province...even almost nonexistent.

Homesick for her familys support and presence, encouraging words, sense of security, in spite of these bizarre emotions, she is proud to say that she can level with the British nurses. It took a lot of hard work on her part to achieve the status of where she is today. And she owes it partly for her schooling in Saint Paul College of Iloilo and for 1/-year training in the medical ICU at Saint Pauls Hospital.

She started as a C grade nurse while waiting for her pin or nursing license. It was a big blow to her pride and ego to start again at the bottom. The UK standard of nursing does not recognize the training theyd had in the Philippines. They have to undergo a -month training in order to qualify. In these months, there will be orientation and supervision phases.

In the orientation phase, she will be working with a senior nurse. Her nursing responsibilities were reduced to

1) vital signs taking as reflected by the cardiac monitor

) bed baths and other forms of hygiene

) oral drug administration. She could not administer any IV medications.

In the supervision phase, she got to work alone but shadowed by a senior nurse. I was now allowed to administer IV medications and make decisions as long as it had been checked with the senior nurse.

After months of hard work, she was promoted to D grade. she got to handle patients on her own. In her unit, they have a 11 ratio of nurse-patient. Day by day, she learned new procedures, enhanced my knowledge and skills.

After a year and a half of proving her competence in knowledge and skills through the official nursing competency booklet as prescribed by the UK nursing midwifery council, she was promoted to E grade. Her responsibilities became wider in scope-- she got to look after new nurses, train new nurses and handle student nurses.... what had gotten her through were the

initiative and motivation to face new challenges and responsibilities.

After a year of being an E grade, she was promoted to a pod leader (a pod leader has a group of 4-5 nurses and patients. She will act as a liaison between the junior nurses and the senior nurses plus the medical team). SHe is now being trained to be one of the nurses-in-charge of the cardiac high dependency unit (a step-down from the cardiac intensive care unit.

She is proud of what she have achieved so far. She have gone through a lot-- shed a few tears, bruised pride and egos, plummeting self-esteem. These experiences made her a better nurse and a better person.

It is difficult to work in another country because of the cultural differences. It cannot be denied that some of her colleagues (doctors and nurses) have racial discriminations towards Asians.

No matter where Asians will go, there is the question of superiority and inferiority. Her Filipino colleagues and she have been treated as an inferior. For example, during ward rounds, doctors would rather address their orders to senior nurses instead of her. She find it insulting and quite degrading. She would stand there and look stupid. It was her patient their discussing but they were not including my sis in their plan of care for the day. This can be a major stress factor. Some would even refuse to help Asians.

Filipino nurses are very hard working. They often get the most critical patients. Ironically, they are one of the lowest in rank when it comes to the nursing hierarchy but they get to be allocated to critically ill patients. And when they do, it is on a 11 ratio. But when the British nurses handle the same kind of critically ill patients, the ratio is nurses to 1 patient.

Nevertheless, they, Filipino nurses manage to withstand the trials and tribulations they encounter. They manage to work for years no matter how difficult for the sake of professional development, career advancement and security. Please note that this sample paper on A Glimpse of my sister's life is for your review only. Motion pictures are designed to appeal to broad audiences. In order to do so,

there are several elements that are required in order to capture audiences, and create an

overall interest in the movie. Now, no movie will be able to appeal to everyone, because

people prefer different types of movies, different actors, etc.But personally, the things I

look for in a movie are a good plot, good acting, and realism.

A good plot, to me, is one that gets my attention.Something that makes me want

to watch and find out what is going to happen, rather than one that is predictable or

boring.A good plot is one that builds up from a series of events, leading to a suspenseful

climax, followed by a series of solutions, bringing it back down to a solid ending. In

order to attain this, however, a movie needs more than a good plot; it also needs good

actors to create that effect.

Actors are just as important to a film as the story. An actor needs to be able to

recreate the way a person would act if what was happening in the movie was happening

to them in real life.I think that the most difficult thing to do for an actor is to be totally

convincing, because its more than what is said; body language is a vital part, because if

they don't have the right expressions, than its just words.

Realism is a combination of the two. With the right plot, containing believable

events, and good acting, realism is acquired.Movies that are farfetched, like the James

Bond series are, in my opinion, too unbelievable. They may be entertaining to a degree,

but when looked at logically, they are unbelievable, and in many cases, impossible.

Realism ties in a lot of other factors as well, such as the necessary special effects, detail,

and general surroundings.

With a good plot, good actors, and realism, the rest of the film comes together.

Those are the important things I look for in a movie, and if they're all done well, it will

result in a successful and entertaining film. Please note that this sample paper on How I Evaluate a Motion Picture is for your review only. Compare and Contrast the Main Themes From Two Books

Weetzie Bat, by Francesca Lia Block, and Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte are novels about two girls and their dreams of true love and happiness. When I re-read Weetzie Bat I understood Jane Eyre better; the messages are so similar it was really enlightening. A young girl, living in the 1th century in Victorian England has more in common with Weetzie Bat, living in Los Angeles, California in the 10s than you would think.

Comparing the writing styles of these authors is like comparing classical music to rap. Charlotte Bronte takes the reader (in enough descriptive detail to put me to sleep a few times she takes up an entire page describing what the inside of a room looks like!) through a series of events leading Jane from childhood to womanhood. Weetzie Bat, written in the 0th century, is fast and colorful, all action with very little description taking the reader through Weetzie's life as she experiences true love, the death of a close friend, and tons of excitement.

Jane Eyre and Weetzie Bat think for themselves instead of following what others do, think, or believe in but because of the different values of the times in which they live, they are treated very differently. In the 0th century, Weetzie is accepted for being independent and different from everyone else. These qualities make her attractive. On the contrary, Jane is treated as though being different and being an independent thinker is bad and unacceptable. People even say she is evil.

The men in the protagonists' lives represent a kind of hero for their times. Mr. Rochester is wealthy, smart, dark, mysterious, and romantic. He treats Jane like she is equal to him, as though her social status doesn't matter to him. This is attractive to Jane because she wants to gain love and affection without having to sacrifice what she believes in. Jane has to work really, really hard to find this kind of happiness. Weetzie wants to live happily ever after like in the movies. She wants to fall in love with a fashionable secret agent man, (Her lover wears a trench coat and directs movies,) have a baby, and live in a pretty little house. A genie in a bottle grants Weetzie her wishes.

In both books, other women threaten the happiness that the main characters find with their lovers. The Lanka (a witch), with whom My Secret Agent Lover Man had previously had an affair, comes to his and Weetzie's home and demands money for an abortion. Later she leaves the baby on the porch of Weetzie's home and they take care of it. Marriage isn't really that important to Weetzie. Her parents were divorced, her best friends are gay, and her own baby could be theirs as well as My Secret Agent Lover Man's. In Weetzie's world, nothing is shocking, everyone just deals with whatever reality comes their way. Marriage is extremely important to Jane's dream. But Mr. Rochester has a psycho-wife who lives hidden away in a private room at the top of the house. He feels he is legally and morally tied to her, even though her family tricked him. This inability to get a divorce (in their society a divorce is not an option) threatens his future life with Jane. Jane feels that she can not marry Mr. Rochester because she would be a mistress, not his wife. The divorce that is common in Weetzie's world would make everything so much easier in Jane's world. Jane has to wait for an accident to occur to get rid of the "other woman".

Jane's and Weetzie's dreams of love and happiness are dreams that all young women dream. The times in which they lived determine what their dreams are, and how they are able to achieve them. Both Jane Eyre and Weetzie Bat are determined, thoughtful, wise, and rebellious. As a contemporary woman, I find that I identify with both of them. I'm more like Jane in what I want in a relationship with a guy, but I live a life that is much more similar to Weetzie Bat's.

Through reading the selection of poetry three parts of Catulluss consciousness are revealed. Catullus has a loving side that is fraught with torment as he cannot obtain what he desires, he is a top academic in his knowledge and also his skill in using the Latin language and last but not least is a fierce intellectual as the Story of Attis shows. Overall, although he painstakingly describes and devotes many poems to Lesbia, the most important part of Catulluss psyche is the need to be remembered for his work and ideas.

Poem one, although small, is quite an important one in terms of content and meaning. It shows that Catullus, aside the jokes about his, novum lepidum libellum wants people to think that his, nugas esse aliquid. He seems to be a modest person, dismissing his toils as a, quidquid libelli quaelumque, but he has true ambitions. He wants his work to, maneat perenne plus uno saeclo as they are worthy of that timelessness. Notice too, the positioning of this poem at the beginning of the book. This shows its the first thing he wants the reader to take in, his academic aspirations and just for this reason alone his aspiration to be recognised as being a great poet and not dwindling into obscurity is very important to the man. Its content, him wanting to be ambitious and having true ideas, covered by modesty and jokes, is how the book is to be seen.

Catulluss desire for Lesbia and the fact that he cant have her are two important themes in Catulluss mind, nearly as important as his academic aspirations (he devotes nearly as much of the selection to the fact.) Poems two and three give the impression that Catullus is on the outside looking in at Lesbia. Initially in poem two, he tries to deceive the reader into thinking that he is close to her all the time but it can be argued as if he is looking and lusting after someone that he cant have. Catullus is watching Lesbia and the bird, cum qui ludere from afar, hoping that, ut gravis ardor acquierat he may have the courage in himself to boldly go and gain the attention of Lesbia to, ludere tecum ipsa sicut et levare tristis curas animi. In poem three there is nothing that alludes to the interpretation that he and Lesbia are having any kind of relationship. The time that he was waiting for, gravis ardor acquierat with the bird has come as the, passer est mortuus. Catullus fills the poem with a lot of detail about the sparrow being, mellitus and that he, norat tam bene quam puella matrem etc., but notice that he is never personally involved in any of the detail, he is simply observing the situation and through his description, deceiving the reader. He adds to his deception that he is personally involved by over-elaborating about the sparrows death by the, malae tenebrae Orci, quae devoratis omnia bella. Catullus is biding his time, watching the, ocelli of Lesbia which are, rubent turgiduli flendo, and waiting to make his move.

Poems five, eight, seven and thirteen are open to the interpretation of the fact that Catullus is with Lesbia, however there is still much evidence to supply the opposite view. The first two lines of poem two, loudly exclaiming, vivemus, mea Lesbia, atque amemus, and telling her not to care about, omnes rumores severiorem senum, do slightly imply that Catullus is with Lesbia but looking over the body of the poem, it can be seen that this is not the case. It is another deception and looks as if he is projecting a vision to himself. The later lines of the poem, nobis cum brevis lux semel occidit and, cum fecerimus multa milia (of kisses) although pleasantly romantic, have not actually happened yet (they are all talking about the future) and just give the inclination that Catullus is still fantasising. Poem seven is just another one of Catullus fantasies of courtship. It is a playfull one wittily asking, quot mihi basiationes tuae sint satis superque, for himself. He also shows his academic knowledge by referring to, oraclum Iovis…et Batti veteris sacrum sepulcrum. Poem eight is one of the few poems, if one was so inclined, that can give rise to a strong feeling that Catullus really had an affair with Lesbia. However, with the direction I have taken it can be seen to give the opposite view. For example when Catullus tells himself to, desinas ineptire, et quod vides perisse ducas perditum he has realised that his positive pontificating is over-this fantasy is going nowhere. Quondam candidis fulsere on Catullus and his visions when, multa iocosa fiebant quae tu volebas nec puella nolebat. If Lesiba hadnt wanted the, iocosa to take place she wouldnt have let them, fiebant and so where, if the, iocosa did take place, would they have happened? In Catulluss mind. This poem is Catulluss wake up call to himself to tell him to stop fantasising and with a, obstinata ment perfer, as from then on he will, nec rogabit invitam. Poem seventy-six although not as strong minded as poems eight and eleven is evidence of a build-up to the sentiment he expresses in those two poems. Although he asks the Gods to, eripite hanc pestem perniciem mihi he shows signs of wanting the contrary as he makes references to his, longum amore and wishes her to be, pudica. Poem thirteen can be seen as some sort of conclusion for either view of Catulluss relationship with Lesbia. It is concrete evidence that Catullus either had a lover (if this is true then its not Lesbia here) or was once again projecting his visions into reality (if this is the case then he would be with Lesbia.) Catullus definitely seems very much high on life as he jokes lightly about Fabulus bringing a, bonam cenam non sine puella et wine et sale. Catullus is trying to say here that he is not going to provide any of that as he already has everything he needs in his girl and so he is jokingly asking Fabulus to bring with him his own entertainment for the night. Catullus throughout this whole poem, until it comes to the perfume, quod Veneres -que Cupidines donarunt meae puella, definitely alludes to the view that he has a girl, Lesbia or not, but that line with its reference to the Gods just shows that Catulluss head is truly and firmly, with the, Veneres -que Cupidines on this issue.

Although seeming to be modest about his own work, Catullus does not hold back from criticising other poets work if he deems it to be poor. In poem thirty-six for example, Catulluss victims are the, annales Volusi which he labels as, cacita carta simultaneously using alliteration to harden the cursing. He is very harsh about Volusius work as even though his annals are, cacita carta they are the, electissima scripta of Volusius, one of the, pessimi poetae. Catullus continues his critique streak through to poem ninety five where this time his victim is, Hortensius who he believes, edita quingenta milia too many of his throwaway verses. This time he emphasises his criticism by comparing the work to his friend, Cinnae Zmyrna. Cinnas more careful craftsmanship ensures that, saecula cana diu pervolent Satrachi and that Hatrachius hasty outpourings are ensured nothing more that a fate of providing, laxas tunicas scombris.

Catullus shows his ability to skilfully portray feeling and emotions in two poems of the selection. In poem thirty-one Catullus is concerned with the simple feelings of joy and emotion. It is an unartificial outpouring of the two emotions epitomised by such lines as, o quid beatius curus est solutis and, ridete quidquid cachinnorum est domi. The poem is about the great release of the mind from, onus when one is in familiar surroundings. Though Catullus is dealing with simple themes he counterbalances the poem utilising a consciously complex formulation and wordplay for example with, Thyniam atque Bithynos. Catullus touches on the more solemn emotions when writing about his experiences at his brothers, munere in poem one hundred and one. Simultaneously as he is portraying his, fletu emotion he shows his intellectual side by employing resigned irony with such lines as, advenio…ut…mutam nequiquam alloquerer cinerem. Through such examples of observation Catullus creates the atmosphere of there being a real brotherly understanding between himself and the corpse of his brother, behind the picture he paints of the, tristi ceremony.

Catullus shows more of his intellectual prowess in his rendition of, The Story of Attis. This poem has been described of as, a study of fanatic devotion and subsequent disillusionment (not unlike Catullus situation between himself and Lesbia then!) Catullus presents a very real sense of desolation that a natural man would feel in the midst of the strange scenes that appear throughout the poem. Catullus during the poem repeats the word Attis six times and this sort of repetition helps to convey the picture of a unique and morbid state of mind, by returning the reader forcefully and frequently to key themes. One of the many other descriptive effects Catullus employs is the use of rhythm to show such scenes of action, protracted physical effort and the breaking of misty white waves. For example in line eighty-six, vadit, fremit, refringit virgulta pede vago is a staccato line that shows the fast action in its sound as well as in wording. A last example of Catullus mastery of the Latin language is the way that he uses the choice of wording to convey the emotions of Catullus. In lines forty-four to forty-nine he gathers together the Latin words for mind, intelligence and emotions (pectore…liquida…mente…animo aestuante) to convey the confused, sorting out process in Attis mind when he woke up. To the unlearned eye, this poem might just be seen to be a great feat of literary skill and story telling, but in fact this poem does have a purpose too. Catullus belonged to a group of poets who wanted to rebel against the greats such as Homer and Virgil and their huge epics. This is a poem that is completely mocking the efforts that those sort of poets wrote about and employs the skill of the language to add effects but also to add weight to the mocking of such people. Catullus is intellectually and stylishly taking the piss.

So one can learn through this selection of poetry that there are a few sides to Catullus the man. He shows he has a loving side, although it has been torn with his thankless love for Lesbia, but while it is an important side to his personality, contrasted to his academic and intellectual skill and aspirations in is small in comparison. Catullus makes this clear on the first page of poetry; the poem is not about his love for Lesbia its his hope of being remembered as a great for, more than one century.

Her body sits hunched.

Her mind in a place far away.

Alone.

The small white room in which she sits; intensely still, intensely silent.

Like a shadow, she is silent. Silence is depression. Silence is her weapon - her purposeful isolation, the only way to survive.

Her dull, rhythmical heartbeat, is droned out by the comforting sound of the computer, which composes merely a monotonous whirr.

Her eyes, faded green, wander up along the crack in the wall. The scar - a visual symbol of the room's character; tired, sombre, wounded. But for her there is no outward symbol. No scar. Just her eyes.

The white paint; like the hard shell on her outside, is beginning to damage the paint; crusted and peeling, her barriers are being broken down pieces of her soul once torn apart, now irreplaceable. Her spirit is painstakingly breaking away, the pieces of her being, lost eternally - exposing her, like that of the walls' gnarled, rotting wood.

Those walls of the room hold incessant secrets of hundreds of years - she holds incomprehensible secrets with such depth, that she could not bear to face them.

The ceiling; heavy, confining threatening. She feels as though the walls are closing in on her; as if there is no way out. Her mind; trapped. Her thoughts spiralling. Over and over. She cannot escape. She wants refuge.

The walls are barren a feeling of desolation emanates from the room, echoing inside her. The wooden desk; worn and disfigured; with each blemish inflicted over time, taking its toll the desk barely reminiscent of its original glory. Now it simply sits in a state of nothingness; looking weary, distressed depressing

Depression, riddling her body like cancer, parching, stripping her of her freedoms; of her love. Like the sound of grinding metal; relentlessly playing over in her mind, each time screaming with a louder intensity louder, and louder until the hurtling screams drive her to insanity; drive her to silence. Never asleep. Never awake. Never anywhere just no-where. Nothing.

The beeps of the computer echoed in the empty room cold, harsh noises. Her eyes abruptly focus on the screen.

Her eyes a faded green, seemed hollow, symbolic of the room's sheer emptiness. The shell of a person, like the gnarled frame of the old battered walls is all that remains .. her pain etched in her soul; stripped away her beauty, invaded her mind, and perforated her body.

Leaving nothing.

A mere shadow.

A robot.

A spiritless being.

Like a forest of dead trees; barren, empty, contorted her spirit has been raped she reeks of utter nothingness.

So began her escape.

As the game loads she feels a rush of relief. Of respite.

She does not have to think she does not have to think.

She lives a life of lies, hiding from the truth; from reality from her heart. She is forever mourning defenceless, yet so defensive. An aching heart yet so heartless.

She seeks not be cured of these burdens, but to be free of them. She wants only to be loved, but does not know how to let herself be loved, and cannot love herself.

She desires only refuge from the pain that ceaselessly plagues her haunting her; hunting her. So there she sits, endlessly for hours on end; zonked and entranced in a world that requires no emotion, a world that requires no heart, and a world that requires no spirit.

The looming ceiling and its feeling of imprisonment envelop the small room, leaving only the woman alone; hunched in a pathetic attempt to relieve the weight from her shoulders.
