Kids these days are growing up faster and faster. Some may believe this to be a good thing while others like me think that kids should be kids. When kids try to be adults, they cannot rationally think like adults do.Their minds and hormones are not fully developed so that when things start going bad because they can't get things out of life that they think they should, and instead of thinking through the problems, they act on them.

That's why I'm writing this is to just show you how important it is that parents should be involved in their children's lives.I believe that the terrible story I'm going to tell you would have had a different ending if that were the case. The whole time that I read the story of Shanda Renee Sharer, I kept thinking where are all these kids parents. So this is the story.

Shanda Sharer was one of the youngest murder victims in the state of Indiana in 1.She was just like any other 1year-old, sweet and outgoing. When she got into eighth grade she went to Hazelwood Jr. High in New Albany.Friends were easily come by for Sharer.

She met a 14-year-old girl named Amanda Heavrin.Heavrin coaxed Sharer into having a lesbian relationship with her, even though she already had a 16-year-old girlfriend, Melinda Loveless, whom was very jealous.Loveless harassed and threatened her over a course of six months in and out of school.Sharers parents decided to take her out of that school and put her in a private catholic school. There for a while longer Sharer kept seeing Heavrin and the relationship went on.Loveless was not happy, so she started calling her and harassing her.Sharer was scared of Loveless so she stopped seeing her in December of 11.

Loveless met a 17-year-old girl named Laurie Tackett.Tackett was a little off because all she did was brag about how she would like to kill someone just for the fun of it, and that's why Loveless wanted to be her friend.Loveless told Tackett about Sharer and how much she hated her.Tackett agreed to kill her for her.

On January 10th, 1 Tackett called up a friend from Madison, Indiana, 15-year-old Hope Rippey.Rippey had never net Loveless before but wanted to go to the "rock concert" that Tackett and Loveless invited her to.Rippey then asked one of her 15-year-old friends, Toni Lawrence, to go along too. When the all got together, Loveless started talking about how she wanted to hurt this girl, Shanda Sharer.Tackett became really upset with Loveless and told her that she needed to stop talking about it and do something about it.They decided to go and try to get Sharer out of the house. They drove to Sharer's house and Rippey knocked on the door and told her that she was a friend of Heavrin's and that she wanted to talk to her and that she was really upset.Sharer told her that she didn't want anything else to do with Heavrin.Rippey told her to have a heart and convinced her to come and talk to her.She said that she would have to sneak out of the house because she was forbidden to see Heavrin. They agreed to meet at midnight. The four girls proceeded to the rock concert.Afterwards they went back to Sharer's and hid Loveless in the backseat. When Sharer got to the car they had her sit in the front seat. She made small talk with the girls and then she asked about Heavrin. That's when Loveless jumped up from the backseat and yelled, "surprise".She then put a knife up to Sharer's throat.Sharer begged the girls not to hurt her and they just laughed. They took her out to a wooded area where they beat and tried to strangle her.Rippey and Lawrence stayed in the car.Loveless and Tackett strangled Sharer until she passed out. They put Sharer in the trunk of the car.The other girls got scared and asked if they could go home because they were tired. They took them home. Tackett and Loveless went riding around and Sharer started kicking and screaming. They got her of the trunk where they stabbed and beat her; they even hit her in the head with a tire iron. After that they thought she was dead. They went and picked up the other two girls. They asked what happened to Sharer and they told them that there was no little girl; they were just dreaming. They started driving again and Sharer started hitting and kicking the trunk again. They became very scared. They knew she was in bad shape from the earlier beating and was trying to figure out they was going to kill her once and for all. They stopped by a gas station and bought a gas can and some gas. They went out to a rural gravel road and they got out of the car. They opened the trunk and were shocked to see Sharer alive. There was blood and chunks of flesh all over.Sharer begged them not to kill her and cried for her mother.Lawrence could not take it anymore, so she ran and laid down in the backseat. They drug Sharer out of the trunk.Rippey poured gas over her body and the Loveless lit a match and set her on fire. They stayed there for a minute to make sure she died and then they drove off and went to McDonalds.

Between late 1 and mid-1, all four girls involved in Shanda's murder were sentenced. The punishments…

·16-year-old Melinda Loveless was sentenced to sixty years in the Indiana Women's Prison in Indianapolis, Indiana. She will be released in 05.

·17-year-old Laurie Tackett was sentenced to sixty years in the Indiana Women's Prison in Indianapolis, Indiana. She will be released in 05.

·15-year-old Hope Rippey was sentenced to fifty years in the Indiana Women's Prison in Indianapolis, Indiana. She will be released in 04.

·15-year-old Toni Lawrence was sentenced to twenty years in the Indiana Women's prison in Pendleton, Indiana. She will be released in 01.

Update Lawrence was released from prison on 1/14/00.

Awful things like this happen everyday. We as parents need to be more involved in our kid's lives. I think that all these girls should be punished for their crimes, but I also think they should take some looking at their parents.
